As a writer, what have you learned from Peretti?
I learned picture writing, and simplicity is great.
How 'bout you?

That Christian novels don't have to be hidden sermons but can be entertaining and spirit-filled at the same time. Also presenting flawed characters is much more realistic and we identify with them better than a seemingly sinless Christian character who does everything "right," when no human is.

I haven't read anything of his since "This Present Darkness" which I read and didn't like. Probably because I read it at a time when I was going through some spiritual deception battles and it smacked of similarities to my experience. I thought his writing was too steeped in the sensational and not very well written. But then I did read the whole book. :o I guess I should re-read it again now that all of that has healed and passed.

From Peretti I learned that the Christian message can be presented in an entertaining and superbly-veiled manner. It doesn't have to be a "fire and brimstone" sermon. The Holy Spirit is responsible for delivering the essence of it. God has given us the highest quality material to write about, and the Holy Spirit has enabled us to be inventive, imaginative and experimental in the crafting of the story. I think Peretti was one of the first to realize and utilize this process. I have read 4 of his books, and I enjoyed his style of writing. I am not saying he is the best, but I did learn a lot from him. :)

I learned that I'll never be able to touch the kind of depth and bredth of character development he went into with the main character in The Visitation. The back story on that was amazing.

What did I learn from Frank?
I’ve learned that a faithful heart is more important than technique or style. I learned that prophecy still comes true today, even if through failed vessels.
I’ve learned that quiet compassion for a hurting brother is better than all the advice a wise man can offer. I’ve learned what it’s like to be forgiven, loved, and encouraged by a friend.
I’ve learned that when it’s dark, it’s only the devil pulling the wool over our eyes. I’ve learned that in God’s perfect timing, the Lord will turn the lights back on, and restore everything the devil destroyed. I've learned that the Lord raise's up those that the world would heap in the trash.
These are but a few things I’ve learned from Frank.
