I spoke to a girl today who informed me that 90% of poets are "off the wall," or at least a little demented. She said that in order to write 'good' poetry, one has to be a little warped in the mind. Agree or not? Perhaps she was a really good poet herself! :D

Well...I'm not sure about demented...that's kind of a strong word. But I think that good poets have to be very in touch with their pain and their joy...to be able to fully feel it, experience it, analyze it...to be able to go to depths of their souls that most people leave unexplored. And I think there has to be an ability to be a little radical, a little unconventional...because poetry is about being able to see things a little differently and create metaphors and similes. And a poet has to be able to ignore and deny all the rules about style and grammar and make words sing and dance.

Um...did I answer the question...or am I just rambling? :p
