View Full Version : Have you ever felt trapped in a place you don't want to be?

I'm feeling a bit down today. I'm stuck in a city with no car in which to escape. I long for the wide open places but each day all I see are houses and streets surrounding me.
It's bright and sunny outside right now, but I have no countryside to view. I feel like I'm closing down.

Are you feeling like that right now too?
I love to dream, but sometimes it just doesn't seem enough. Today I keep wanting to cry. I'm a country girl stuck in the city. My 10 year old is out with her dad.
I could walk up to my mums house, but she would know I've been crying and get all upset. I cant stand that.

I have just turned my faverite CD on. Now I'm back on heavenly places :)
The CD is called "everthing"
The song I'm listening to is "Emmanuel"
This song takes me back to the beach... my garden. It helps..........

I understand and have felt this way during the past week. This is one of those "let me tell you what happened to me'' deals. Maybe it will put a smile on your face.
I home school my teen, she can be a pain at times. Her mouth and constant house chores are getting to me. I had to fix the pipes that were leaking under the sink in the kitchen, then the knob on the bathtub broke so I had to fix that. The yard looked like a hayfield so I mowed four acres and came into a house that needed desperately cleaned. My daughter was watching TV and not helping, my husband did not help with anything, no mowing and I felt put out. I felt overwhelmed.. and yes I wanted to run away.
I got in the car and decided to just go, I did not care where I was going. All I did know is I would go until I ran out of gas. This is when the fun starts. I am less than a mile away from home and realize I did not bring my cell or money. The car was near empty and I could have screamed, I stopped at the light then tried to go and the brakes locked up on me. Here I sit, trying to get the car to go forward.. finally it broke free but made this loud obnoxious noise and began bouncing, and I bounced all the way back home.
I realized at that moment I was trying to escape myself, my own mind had made me discontent, angry, and sad. I started laughing at my inept attempt at escaping. My son came up the hill and checked my car, fixed it and gave me a big hug. My daughter picked me a rose from one of the only rose bushes that decided to bloom this year, but her smile and the I love you that followed made me feel better. :D
I am almost afraid to run away again, for fear the doors may fall off the car.

Itsn't it amazing that we, who are to inherit all that is Christ, can feel so down at times. I can soooo relate. And I sit and wonder why it is so, especially when I'm feeling alone and unloved and closed in . . . it's so hot here in the summer. But then I realize that's because I'm not home. I'm an alien in a foreign place just passing through and this foreign place I sojourn in sometimes just gets to me.
Whitehawke, I too miss the green grass of the country (all I see is dry brown desert, cactus and scrawny bushes. Not having a car is the pits, I will pray for a car for you.
Donna, it won't be long until we see that far green country which is our home and dreaming about it helps, doesn't it.
MamaCB,
LOL!! I've done that before, (not with the car problems) but trying to run and realized like you that I'm trying to run from me. Your sense of humor made me laugh! Thanks.
The scripture says we groan in these bodies longing to be further clothed and with our Lord. In Thessalonians when Paul talks of the rapture, he says after to comfort one another with these words.
1 Thess. 4:15-18
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Thank you, MamaCB
you did indeed make me smile, yet a little sad. If that had of been me, I would have been tempted to ring said husbands throat. :D Grrrrrrr
I remember feeling that way about my own teenage daughter, but now she is 20 and doing a course in Hotel management at a school 3 hours drive away. I love it when she visits. :)
As I read what you wrote, it accured to me that you were away just long enough for your children to notice and greet you with love at your safe return.
Running away doesn't solve anything. None of us is ever truely alone, though sometimes we feel that we are. We have the Lord.
I really love the way your humor showed through.
Thanks again for sharing and making me smile.

Thank you for the verse and reminder that this is not our home.
No wonder at times we feel like running away, our home is not here and we are home sick. In my novel I have a scene where Matt's mum hears the trumpet and looks up to see the Lord in the clouds. That is what we're waiting for. That last great trumpet to sound. We long to be with Him on that day, the day of all days. Come Lord, come.
I would feel very lost in a desert, though for a while it may seem fun. If ever you come to NZ you will be most welcome. Come an lie on the grass and stare up at the trees. :)
The crazy thing is, my ex husband bought a secondhand Audi a few weeks back. It will most likely go to my daughter and her old car might be sold to me. A car would be great and I could get out and find a church. We have been in this city for about three months and haven't been in any of its churchs because no buses run on Sundays.
Now that I don't have a car I have a little more money and my overdraft has finally cleared. If I got that car, I would have to pay off a thousand dollars, pay for warrents and rego's plus gas and oil (which it burns like crazy) I'm not sure what to do.
We do indeed groan for home, but we have a reason for being here. We are called to reach out and find those who are lost and bring them home. If we weren't here, this world would die.
I pray the Lords blessings upon you all.

I know I'm rather late on this discussion, but I was wondering -- are things better today? I've moved 30 times in my life so I know what it is like to feel "trapped in a place you don't want to be". Looking back, you will see God's hand working in wonderful and amazing ways. As believers He guides our steps. Proverbs 16:9 tell us, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." For me, that was a huge comfort. I've lived places that I did nothing but whine and plead for Him to take me somewhere else, I've been ill and trapped for years. But waiting on His timing and His way, always, always brought awesome blessings. When God takes you off the beaten path, you can bet He is taking you higher (if you allow) into His presence. You may not have the car, or the view, but you have Him and He has something special planned. Don't give up. Just think, you may be trapped where you are, but you are trapped with Him. Let us know what He is doing in your life -- I can't wait to hear!

Hey God sent us to Las Vegas 11 years old. Boy did we not want to go! And we still don't like the place, but we like that we are where God wanted us.
Give me green
or I'm mean
So Las Vegas?
its the scene
where I'm just
called to be.
And I could SCREAM
cause I really dream
to be somewhere else
where life can be more serene
and sin doesn't gleem
so brightly in the sun.
but God has a plan
and as long as I'm his man
I'll stand where He wants me to stand
be it humble or grand.

I do in deed feel much better. Thank you for asking. I was just having one of those days when I started this thread. I would still much rather be out in the country, but hopefully that will happen someday. :) It's Sunday morning, 8:48am here and the sun is shining into my office. The sun is most welcome on a cold winters day. :D Athough the rain can make me dance and play... he he
God blesses me every day and on that day when I was sad, He blessed me with my friends on this wonderful site. This is a great place to be. :D
And also on that day, one of my American chess opponents had time on his hands and we played internet chess and chatted the rest of the day away. :D

HI Rulan!
My day was a very good one -- thank you for asking. I'm praising the Lord, I'm healthy! That is a long, long story, but this is a good season for me health wise so I'm praising and enjoying life. Tonight we had a Sunday School pool party. Ate, visited, watched the kids play and enjoyed the evening with friends and visitors. God is good! God is always good, even the days when the pain was constant and excruciating. He is good!

Not offended at all. I've been battling autoimmune diseases for over 4 1/2 years, due to lyme disease. What an interesting road that has been! Physically it has been the pits, spiritually absolutely wonderful. So, I praise Him for another good day. One of the articles about that time is on Christianity 4 Life web site -- http://c4lonline.com/june05/cl0008.htm

This is a great topic. I am also living in the city and dying to move back to the country...wanting to go to a simpler lifestyle...and needing to get my student loan paid off before I can do it. Which is at least 3 years away. So I have the temptation to contantly be tapping my foot and saying, "Come on, God! I want to move back to the country, so...I need to know WHERE to move and WHEN to move and WHAT to do when I get there..." Being patient is not a strong point with me so hearing that verse (Prov 16:9) was extremely helpful.

Rulan,
I wanted to say thank you for sharing your heart. I’ve been generally depressed for weeks, and it seemed as if every day was like walking down a staircase. Each day seemed darker than the day before, and nothing I did could shake it. On the day I reached my lowest point, you started this thread. I no longer felt alone. Something broke somehow, and my burden has lightened with each passing day. Thank you!
I pray all is well in the land of the long white cloud. :)

And to think that on that day, I nearly didn't share how I felt, but something (or should I say, someone inside me) told me I should. If you feel down, don't be afraid to share. This is a place where people really care. If you need a lift, give us a yell. Okay? :D
And yes, all is well in the land of the long white cloud. Thank you. I've seen better days, but haven't we all? :D And, gasp, on the 4th i'll turn 46  But I'm not getting older, just closer to home. !thumbsup!

I’m on the other side of a large bay from Seattle. I live on a large chuck of wilderness, with no neighbors visible on any side. On a regular basis we see deer, raccoons, hawks and eagles. I’ve even opened my front door to see a black bear staring back at me.
I hear New Zealand is a paradise. In the 70’s, in my YWAM days, I met quite a few wonderful saints from the land of Kiwis. Winkie Pratney, Joy Dawson, and many others. In 77 on the Island of Cypress, a New Zealander named David ??? nursed me back to health from a case of pneumonia. He made me hot tea, and added fresh lemon and honey. He told me of the job he had back home, and it made me envious. He hunted deer and boar for a living. Man, living in paradise AND hunting for a living.... Wow!
Anyway, how are you tonight?

Near Seattle eh? cool. I can remember watching an old western about Seattle. lol I like westerns, always have. I'll have to look on a map.
What kind of wilderness? Is it desert or bush land or grassy plains? Is it rocky, mountainous or flat?
What amazing wildlife you have. Did the black bear come as a sudden shock and a quick slam of the door or did the bear get more of a fright than you? I'd have slammed the door and grabbed a gun. :D
Have you ever had a pet coon?
1977. I was 18 back then. Yes, NZ is a paradise.
If it hadn't have been for that Kiwi, would you have died from pneumonia? Can you remember the mans last name? It would be amazing if I knew the guy. My husband and I use to be in Search and Rescue. We have met quite a few hunters. lol
Hope I'm not asking too many questions. It's just that I like hearing about people.
I am good thank you. My day was a bit of a cow, but otherwise, I am content.
How are you?

What’s it like here? Green rolling hills! Mostly covered with evergreen trees like fir and hemlock, but there are also alder, maple and pine. You asked about pet raccoons? Not hardly. My boys, our dog and all three of our cats are at war with the local raccoon family. They bully the cats out of their dinner. Today my thirteen and fourteen yr old sons trapped a raccoon under my bulldozer. Caleb poked it in the backside with a long stick and it just about leapt out of it’s ring-tailed skin.
Unfortunately, the shocked coon landed in the middle of the dog’s face. Our poor dog found out what it feels like to have a nose full of needle like teeth. I heard screaming; yelping and a raccoon growling, and I went to investigate. I sent everyone to their rooms. The fourteen yr old swore that he was going to kill it. I told him if he did, he was going to eat it too. We’ll see what happens tomorrow when the saga continues.
My run-in with the black bear was comical. I should write about it someday. I opened the door to see the bear playing with a flower about three feet away. Like a true brainiac, I yelled at him... What was I thinking? If he even noticed my opening the door, he didn’t care. However, he did not like being yelled at. His eyes transformed from playful to a strange kind of piggish quality. He looked suddenly insane, and for a minute I didn’t know what he was going to do.
All at once, it hit me just how stupid of a man I really am. My right hand held our front door between my fingers. Strangely, it never felt flimsy until that instant. For the first time I noticed the bear’s pointy teeth, and it’s two inch claws. I took to praying rather than yelling, and the bear was good enough to eat flowers somewhere else.
What was David’s last name? Hmmm. David Mitchell, that’s it! He would be about fifty or fifty two, six feet tall, and you will recognize him by the halo that hovers over his head. Some folks talk the walk, and others simply walk. David Mitchell was the latter kind. He served others quietly, showed kindness to everyone, and never ever had a big head.
Sorry to hear you day was a cow. (I love your descriptions) It’s been a long day here, and it’s time for this old guy to sleep. (2:45 am, Friday am) I’ll be a sleepy boy tomorrow.
Goodnight kid,
- David

David,
The countryside sounds beautiful. If I was there, I'd be out taking photos or painting. Love rolling hills. I would ride a horse forever into the sunset. lol
Your boys and dog sound like they got off very lightly. If coons are anything like opposums, they can do a lot of damage. But you told it in such a wonderful way that I had to laugh. It reminded me of my father pulling on leather gloves and rescueing a grumpy opposum from behind the front wheel of his car. Then, when I was grown, there was a times when hubby climbed a tree to extract an opposum from its home. LOL. That granddaddy possum weed all over him. I don't think he approved of my laughing, but I couldn't help myself. :D
I look forward to reading the story of the bear. :) I heard a saying once. It was something like... A puppy barking at Bull buffalo. Isn't it strange how we as humans sometimes forget how vulnerable we are?
What a man that David must have been. Shame we don't all walk that way.
Were you a christian at the time?

David,
I hope I didn't offend you by mentioning that old saying about the puppy and bull buffalo. It was aimed at me, not you. I can remember times in my life when I have said or done something and then realised I was courting danger. Like stepping in front of a galloping horse in an attempt to stop it escaping. Or the time I foolishly raised a hairbrush (of all things) to a savage dog.
Sometimes my sense of humor carries me away and people don't always understand.
Anyway, sweet dreams.

Rulan,
No, I don’t get offended much. In fact, the only thing that ever seems to offend me is when I see someone bullying another. Don’t feel bad, nobody ever gets my sense of humor either... That is, with the exception of in my novels. It was a pleasant shock to hear back from readers that they actually got my dark humor!!?! When I worked with youth, it was the Jr. High teens that got me best. I’m not sure what that is saying, but it’s true.
As for the bear, honestly, when I opened the door the first thing that ran through my mind was “It’s a bear”. The next stupid thing to quiver through my gray-matter was “I can take em’”. I wish I were lying, but I’m not. The split second that passed between my yell and my realization of what I had done lasted for an eternity. Time stood still.
Was I a Christian in 77 when I knew David Mitchell? Yes, I was in Youth With A Mission (YWAM). David and I were students of a School of Evangelism in Germany, which finishes off with a field trip. We traveled all over on a 1958 Mercedes Benz buss named “Katie” of which I was a driver and mechanic. We got to follow in Paul’s footsteps as well as see Israel’s holy sites and even breakdown in Egypt. Good times! !thumbsup!
Some day I hope to visit NZ. In fact, in my third novel my characters visit there on their way to the Solomon Islands. (home to the dreaded “Island of the Nephilim”) For once, I wish I could do some first hand research rather than ruin my eyes studying websites with freakish color combinations for their text. Neon pea-green does not stand out well on a teal background, for instance.
When you get a chance, I’d love to hear more about your possums. Did dad get bit extracting the critter from the wheel well? Poor dad got wee’d on?... Did you see it happen? Poor guy! Sadly, that seems to be a reoccuring theme throughout my life. It's happened to me with a desert tortoise, a low flying seagull, (and all four of my sons when changing their diapers). No fun.
May the Lord bless you, - David

David,
Hope you managed to get a good amount of sleep last night?
Humor is a strange thing, isn't it? It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with a crazy sense of humor. :D
I love the bit about the bear. You really must make it into a story. :D Those kinds of moments make us human. lol Perhaps it's those kind of moments in which a new hero is born. If a thought like that hadn't raced through the hero's mind, then perhaps they wouldn't have rushed into a burning building to save a life or dived into a river to save a soul. In that moment with the bear, if one of your loved ones had been in danger, you may have rushed out there without a second thought.
That's right, you had mentioned YWAM, silly me.
That trip must have been amazing. I would love to step foot in Israel.
One of your characters comes here? cool. !thumbsup! What sort of things do you need to know about NZ? Perhaps I can find some non-garish web sites for you to explore.
Hope your day is going well.

Well done! Your math is correct. At the time I'm writing this, it is 6:35 Monday morning July 4. And I am the only one awake, so that means that you my friend, are the first one to wish me happy birthday on the actual day.
Thank you and may you have a great day also.

Special plans involve running around like an idiot, getting my house shipshape for my guests this afternoon, cooking and washing my hair....lol That sounds so strange. :D I should say, washing my hair and cooking some food, not cooking my hair. :D
And if God gives me the time to do it, I'll edit more of my book.
May you have a great day.

This is Agape, I request that all my new friends pray for my purpose being fulfilled in the earth. There must be hundreds of people in places desiring to be some place else. To help those people be contented until their change come, I do believe that my calling can help. Even if you have a little money or no money, we can always find someone in worse shape to up lift. Like these writings, they uplift when some discover that God never fails and being creative helps. Just to dream of ways I can uplift someone else, or give assistance to them. Finding resources to make it better for others can help bring prosperity to our own lives. Selfishness only breeds lonliness. Being alone makes the heart stoop. Good praise music helps to uplift the spirit. Remember Saul, how David played on the harp and brought pleasure for a time to the kings heart? Whatever kind of music that brings pleasure to the heart helps friends. Not trying to be a know it all, but I have had to find ways to cheer myself up being shutin so much of the time and having no one to relate to about the things of disappointment and dismayed sometimes even with God. Yes, I have had issues with God, as much as I love Him, and Know that He is Lord of all. That He never fails. In years I believed that He would help others and not me. So when experiencing losses, I wouldn't talk to Him for days, and yet He never left. I could hear Him speaking to me in my heart through TBN or some other speaking method. I knew it was Him, because no one knew what I was going through. God is good and faithful. So when I feel idol and down, I start to find some way to release it by seeking out to help someone worse off than I. Be blessed and satisfied my friends.

Seems like what began as doldrums has slipped past chipper to fully festive. I live in the great open spaces. My forty acres is behind a 1000 acre ranch with a 300 acre farm behind us. Our horses and dogs roam leisurely, wild life abounds, the Blue Ridge is framed by my bedroom windows and blue skies blend sweetly here towards Heaven. Still, days come when all the scenery, seclusion and sweetness seems hidden or just falls coolly on care covered eyes.
I forget my blessings, loose my thankfulness and misplace my joy. Silly man that I can be. My strength is in The Lord, my joy in such a great salvation. I remember God and my tiny dirty footprints here on a wee corner of this His footstool and again I can appreciate the Friend Savior and Father who paid the price most dear to fit me snuggly at His feet.
How do people without God survive in this manic mayhem of a world? We all get blue and the sky does too but I have found if I will remember where I stand and who made it possible, appreciation and perspective soar past my surroundings and sagging shoulders and rekindle the joy that is my strength.
Blessings,
The Quadfather :D

my day just stinks. I went to work, came home, cleaned, cooked, bathed the kids and by the time I got done it was9:15. My husband sat on the computer the whole time playing games. I just get so tired of trying sometimes but im a fighter so i just keep on going. It builds up sometimes and i like to go to the track especially in the rain and just run as fast as I can. It helps me blow off steam so that I dont explode on anyone. thats the only thing i've found that helps me.

I'm not dull of teeth but I don't usually bite, usually. ;)
I'm not a runner, but I do like walks in the rain. Quiet, peaceful.
I don't 'do' anything to blow off steam, too dangerous. I just let it out pointed upward, I can't burn Him with my steam. But that's just me.
God Bless!

Walks in the rain are wonderful.
Exercise produces a reactian that evens out ones moods. Before I became a Christian, running and writing were my only outlets for volcanic steam. I don't like to think what could have happened if not for those two things at that time in my life. But then I met Jesus, wow what a change. I praise God He saved me and made me new. I don't run like I used to, unless it's to run into the arms of my Lord. He knows me better than anyone and yet He loves me.
Hisart, I like what you said.
Oh, and I must admit, my teeth aren't really blunt, I've just learnt to soldem bite.

When I was in college, there was a beautiful lake on campus. I would go walk around that lake for hours. I think it was my salvation, or at least the restorer of my sanity. It was the only place I could think, really think. Not because of business so much as everyone was always telling you what to do or not to do, preaching their convictions and pointing out how you didn't measure up (yes, a Bible college - an extreme one). I remember so many times getting out by that lake and just trying to sort it all out in my head. I believe that was the beginning of my "escape" from that opressive mentality - praise God!
ANyways . . . someone pointed out exercise, especially walking, to let off steam and clear one's head and I highly agree!

Dianne,
Ah yes, a good brisk walk does wonders at times. How I'd love to be beside the sea. I could walk along the sand for hours, or sit on a dune and stare out to sea. Beautiful. Oh to be out on the sand with the Lord to hold my hand. :)

MysricFire,
Please tell me about this banana cream pie. Can it be made without cream? I ask because I can't eat real cream, it's far too rich for me. But if the pie can be made without it, I love to know how to make it. I love bananas and that bread sounds yummy.

Lol, it's not really made with cream. Banana cream pie is where you make up some banana pudding and put it in a grahm cracker crust. I usually put whipped cream (lite) on it. The bread is a bread mix. I have no idea how to make it from scratch, but you definitely can find recipes online. I found a recipe for pumpkin bars a few months ago. Even for the cream cheese frosting. I found a site with beef stew recipes. I couldn't find one I liked so I took some spices from several different reipes and made my own. It's amazing what you can do with stew meat, carrots, onion, potatoes, pepper, salt, paprika, and thyme. :D

It's instant banana pudding. Usually, you can find it at a grocery store. And what are grahm crackers!?!!?! ....How does someone explain grahm crackers....Well...they're like crackers...but larger, sweeter (comes in honey and cinnamon, that I know of) It usually a snack food or people put different things on it...Me, I like it plain, with milk, or in the form of a crust. That comes read-made, though. I'm not sure how grocery stores work in NZ. If you google, you can find a great many recipes.

We are christians, right? Well I want to run this by you all for my sake. To my understanding of this life, everything has a purpose. No preaching, but writing to myself. By faith in God, that when you are in a place that you donot want to be, one realize that God is still in control and has not deserted you. Even though the thing was ment to hurt or destroy you, it will never happen. That is if you know who you are in God. Too preachy? Well I hope there is someone else out there besides myself that need to be reminded that you are valuable, necessary, when might not think so, and if you had not come to earth, then some components of earth would be missing. Too bad, if we live and remain in places where we donot want to be because it might not be the place where we are suppose to be. By not listening to God's instructions and obeying them oftimes it leads to dis- ease. Not being comfortable or contented where we are.
Making bad choices for ourselves and being of course. As I sad before, I am writing to myself. I must remember there is a purpose to it all and though I might not understand it now, as the song goes, we will understand it better by in by.
I make my choice not to complain, but praise and wait for my change to come.

Trapped in a place I didn't want to be? YES! Many times. When being where I didn't want to be, it felt like FOREVER. The depression and fear were overwhelming. Still, when being there, I was learning things that I never would have even thought of. But I still wanted OUT! Praise Jesus, He was faithful everytime to move me out and bring me to a place of peace and joy. But not before I learned something. I think He was trying to get my attention before I got to these "Egypts", but I wasn't listening. So, through my own will, I ended up in Egypt many times. I'm not saying you brought it on yourself; I don't even know you. I'm just saying that for me, I had things to learn before He could bring me out, due to my lack of seeking His guidance. Yet, again, He ALWAYS brought me OUT, even if it was at the last hour.
