Im really just curious here...
Out of all the Christian writers here, how many of you are musicians as well? or even painters/artists? Next question, how many of you are involved in some form of vocational ministry? Spend a few hours in prayer a day?

I dont ask this to be offensive or anything, Im just trying to get a feel for the different people that are here all at once. I think it would be cool to get a few of those questions answered out of curiosity. I guess Im just trying to get to know all of you all at once ;)

Feel free to expand as much as possible.

UPDATE: JUNE 10,2005 11:17P.M.
Well, Im really glad you guys all took interest in the topic and responded. Thanks a bunch! As for me, I play the guitar for worship, piano for classical, I like sketching and drawing. I also am very analytical, logical, & a deep thinker.
I intercede for people when Im driving most of the time. In a given week I'll spend anywhere from 8-40 hours in prayer... just depends on the week. Last week I spent about 35-40, this week it's been so hectic maybe only 4 "hardcore" hours. Mainly I try to stay in tune, Im currently full time in ministry as well as a student. This week didn't allow for very much time of anything. But I always try to take a time-out and hit the altar hard if I feel myself acting a bit in the flesh, having attitude problems, or if someone calls with a need.

So that's me! Thanks to everyone for partaking! !thumbsup!

Well I better spend a few hours in prayer not only because its written but because I want to be always fully armored in Christ. The Word says to "put on Christ". Being at work, I try to read as much as I can in my little Bible. I also read a chapter before I leave the house or at least a psalm or proverb. I also read in the evening. I pray when I wake up and before I lay down and all throughout the day, I talk to God. I am not an artist but a poet. That's about it. How about you?

I am a "do one thing at a time-then move on" type person, therefore I write! I am not a musician, although I love music. My son is a gifted musician and song writer so I get great joy in watching him, and I have written some lyrics for him. As for artist, not on your life although I love art. Again, my son is an artist to some extent. So, even though I only write God has blessed me with being able to enjoy the other giftings through my children. It's a great blessing to me. !thumbsup!

Good questions, Roxy,

"Out of all the Christian writers here, how many of you are musicians as well? or even painters/artists? Next question, how many of you are involved in some form of vocational ministry? Spend a few hours in prayer a day?"

1. A musician? I'm not that, but I am an amateur pianist and organist. Singing is what I do best.

2. Vocational ministry? Not really, but I have taught Sunday Schools for years. And had a ladies ministry at one time.

3. I try to spend an hour in the morning reading the Bible and praying. In the evening, my husband and I pray together and read the Bible. In the evening I add another 15 minutes or so in private devotions.

You're right, Roxy! This is one way to get to know each other!

God bless you,
Ellenjames

No musical skills at all, can't play, can't sing, can't anything.

I am a professor at a state (i.e., secular) university.

Pray regularly, at various degrees of intensity, though not for as long as I'd like.

Have hosted and led church home groups in the past, though I do not now. I serve regularly in the nursery at church, and grade papers and projects for our church-based leadership program.

I played violin professionally for a few years...my teen summers were spent practicing 6 hours a day. But my wrists 'bought it' in a car wreck so that trade is over. I teach school in a Christian Academy and I pray a lot, though I would like to remember to do more.

I play trumpet and piano and sing. Or, I used to. I haven't done anything musically in a while.

I have absolutely zero ability when it comes to art...but I love to enjoy and appreciate it.

I am completely incapable of anything crafty, like knitting and needlepoint, but I have an uncanny ability to "make things pretty"...interior decorating, fashion assembling, etc...and that's one of my artistic outlets.

As far as prayer, I mostly try to adhere to the concept of "praying unceasingly." I try to always be aware of God's presence and in dialogue with Him. I try to have an hour a day of devotions and "list praying." And a few days a week I try to spend time in intense intercession.

I'm not currently involved in any type of vocational ministry, though I'm in leadership at church and hope to soon have more time to devote to that. I would LOVE to be in full time ministry someday!

Fun topic Roxy! :)

I'm not a musician, although many in my family can play by ear. I think it's more that I never really had the oppertunity to learn, but that's by the way. I love music, guitar, violin and harmonica would be my faverites to listen to as well as piano.
I am an artist and have sold quite a few pictures. I use colored pencils. I also love photography.
As for prayer? I have slipped. I use to talk with my Heavenly Father a lot during the day. I wont go into detail, but I was hurt bad by a close christian friend and it really knocked me down. The Lord is helping me to claw my way back.

Rulan!

You can "come back"! God is waiting with open arms. He said, "Come unto me all you
who weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28 NKJV
Accept His invitation, just talk to Him in your way. He will listen; He loves you, He cares.

I am glad you enjoy working with colored pencils. Keep drawing and keep writing.

Love and Best Wishes,

Ellenjames

Thanks :) How can I not come back? He is my all. Without Him, I wouldn't even be here. I have seen so many healings, recieved so many dreams and visions. There is no other to place to be, than in His arms. I know one day that joy will return.
In my novel, the rapture happens. When I was writing one of the scenes involving it, I was given a brief glimpse of how it might feel at that moment of the last trumpet sound.
Anyway, it seems like the enemy has tried to stop me from writing this book, but God is mighter than he. I'm still here and so is the book. I'll shut up now, cause I'm sounding like an idiot.

Rulan,
You are not sounding that way! All of us need prayers of others now and then. I certainly know that I do!

God bless you!

I was forced to take piano lessons as a kid. Who knows why - so I could play horrid duets with my sister (who plays beautifully and wanted to learn). LIke I always said, SOMEONE has to listen and that would be me! I listen to lots of different music.

I used to draw and paint quite a bit; even taught art for a year to jr-sr high. I need to get back to that.

Pray - that's the toughest area of my Christian life and something I need to do more of. Much more of. I started a new schedule at work last year and have had a hard time adjusting my schedule and consistently spending time in prayer and God's word. That's a painful confession but it's good to be challenged by others in this area.

(Please take into consideration that I'm only 21)

1. I played the clarinet in year 4, up until year 7 but then I quit that. In year 10 I started drums and struggled with it until the end of year 11. I wasn't gifted with natural music talent so it was really hard for me (I'm also dyslexic). I enjoy drawing but I'm still learning many of the skills involved.

2. No, but I'm a youth leader for kids in year 7 and year 8 at my local church.

3. I don't read the Bible as often as I should. We have family devotions almost every night after tea. And I pray a bit during the day and before I go to sleep. I should learn to also start off the day with prayer.

I have played the flute since I was in 4th grade and I currently play with my church's worship team.

On Wednesdays, I help out doing registration at B.A.C.K. PACK. Which is like children's church. The kids have worship then a snack and then they break up into classes for a lesson. I help out with counting them and their offerings, making sure everyone is accounted for and also keep track of points. They get points for different things like memory verse, bringing bibles, etc. Then, when a new year starts, they get trophies for boy and girl of the year.

I read my bible every night before I go to bed. I also have a devotional that my church gives out, that I read at different times. I seem to have been in a "rut" with my prayers lately. They seem to be the same thing over and over. That seems to happen to me every so often, need to work on it.

Hmmmm. Play the guitar, write songs, sing (but as a back up mostly) dance (tap and ballet though getting a bit old now), paint with acrylic and oil, pastels and colored pencils, photography, any kind of craft but I hate knitting, and of course write. I also love acting though I have done a minimum of that.

I teach theology and have been pastoring for a little over two years.

I spend time with the Lord in the morning, prayer and scripture. Pray whenever he calls, and try to spend some meditation time (listening) every day.

I should add I play the "horn" for as much tooting as I've done here. ;)

I forgot, I also do a bit of crochet. I've tried to learn to knit, but haven't had much luck. :D

I love playing music! It’s a great way for me to express my feelings of happiness, joy and love for God. In my free time I compose and record music. I recorded a cd last year and I’m planning to release the follow-up this summer. You’re more than welcome to download the songs posted at my website :)

I stay in prayer it seems constantly because I am confused about people. I quit going to church services, but gather with my family and teach through the word through our family Bible, although worn it holds great wisdom and strength.

I enjoy writing lyrics, I use a keyboard (although I would not allow anyone to hear me lol)

Teens and young adults that are my kids friends often listen to my "stories" which, are not really mine. They are the Parables of Christ, but if that is how I can reach them it is alright by me.

I used to sing in the choir and did a few solo songs, but those where old gospel songs not the ones of today. I enjoy singing them, humming them while I wash dishes, work in the garden and get stressed.

I paint using acrylics, oils, and water colors. It relaxes me.

I hope I answered this correctly.

Good, MamaCB,

What better place to get your ideas for your writings than the Bible.

I enjoy some of the older church songs, but I also include lots of new ones. I play the organ (electronic) at church. Since it's a small church they allow me the privilege.
Singing is a joy; I do solos, trios, and even quartets.

But I like to write! I have innumerable notebooks. When I read the old ones, they are rather biographical, and some of the stories or poems sound good. (Many don't though!)

Enjoy your writing, MamaCB. God bless you.
