Just wondering what anyone's opinion is concerning the credibility of ezines? Are they as credible as print publications? Why or why not? How useful are they for building a portfolio? Is it easier to get your work accepted at an ezine? Would a portfolio filled with ezine credits really carry weight with editors of print publications?

My experiences thus far has shown that print magazine publishers look on ezines as second rate. It does seem to be easier to get published on an ezine, because they don't have a great proven base to chose from. The printed mags have a solid foundation of proven writers. I think some of that has to do with the relative newness of ezines compared to print magazines. A lot of the negative aspects will change with the longevity of quality ezines. The elder print mags have to see some quality competition from ezines to put a little unease in their arrogance. It's just like everything else in life. No one has any respect for the new guy on the block until he shows his expertise at what he's doing and his durability. My opinion!

Hi,
I agree that e-zines probably don't carry as much weight as print magazines. E-zines do offer exposure that print copies don't--many writers have gained sales because their on-line work has been seen by editors. Each individual must decide what his or her goal is. Some established writers recommend a balance of the two.
Best wishes with your writing. God bless.
