I did mine on HP Photo/Imaging, but other than that, ???. Mine didn't turn out right because I scanned a large picture and then reduced it which made it blur. So, hopefully someone with more tech brains can help. Sorry, lady! :(

I 'm not sure if you can do this in any other photo program but I used Photoshop/Photoshop Elements. Just import picture then crop what you don't want, change image to the pixels/size and save as a jpeg on your desktop. The just go to the your account and click on edit avitar, click on browse where it says to upload, locate the picture on your desktop, click open and there you are.
If you don't have photoshop you can also use Publisher to crop and resize but you can't find out how many pixels it is only the kb. Other than that, maybe someone else has some ideas.

That's how I did it also, but the picture blurred when it went from 400 to 50 pixels. Is there a remedy for that?

John,
When I tried to use my imaging program in MS Office, it did the same thing. I don't think it works unless you use photoshop. If you want you can e-mail me the picture as an attachment (the cropped one) and I will crop it more, resize it and send it back.

If you attatch the photo you want to a post in this thread, I'll crop/resize it for you.

You just need a graphics/photo editting package on your PC, to resize image to the avatar size. When you resize, you need to lock the width and height together, so when one is reduced, the other follows suit proportionally. Usually you can drag a corner handle inwards when the image is selected in your graphics software, or enter % or pixel values in a box.
HP photo will have a resize function somewhere in it's interface.
If you don't have an image editting software package such as Photoshop, Fireworks, Xara, Paintshop Pro, CorelDraw, try the free Gimp - http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
