My dad has a '56 Chevy with an mp3 player hidden under the seat that plays through the factory radio. For two years, he's driven that car around with 300 '50s pop songs playing, but he was always into classic country. So, aside from Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, what were the popular country artists and songs from that time period? I'm trying to redo the disk to reflect the kind of music he listened to... and I'm having trouble finding anything other than the popular "oldies" that I've already got.

Can't remember specific songs, but, I think that some artists included, Buck Owens, Loretta Lynn, and Johnny Paycheck.

Ernest Tubb, Farin Young, Johnny Cash, Hank Snow, I think Waylan Jennings? Sons of the Pioneers, Patsy Cline, That's all my old brain will let me remember right now.

Oh lets see....I do love country music......ifI can get the era correct

there would be Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Marty Stuart, Buddy Holly, George Jones, Charley Pride, Chet Atkins, Roger Miller, Eddy Arnold, Tammy Wynettte, Loretta Lynne, dont know if Barbara Mandrell is in that era or not...or Meryle Haggard....

those are a few I think...

Wasn't there a Mel Tillis? He was the one who had a severe stuttering problem until he sang. I'm not sure if I have the name right, but, as a little girl with a huge speech impetiment, I looked up to him.

Maybe a little later (late 60's), but I always liked Glen Campbell.

My G-ma liked Don Williams, Porter Waggoner, Buck Owens, Roy Clark, June Carter Cash, George Jones and the Statler Brothers not sure what years those covered, (I'm not too much into country--lol) I saw Buddy Holly on one of the posts, wasn't he Rock?
Oh, what about John Denver? Not sure about that one. OR Ernest Tubb? And the other guy who sang the Beverly Hillbillies theme song. When was Ray Stevens popular? I think Elvis may have done some country type songs early in his career, again, I'm not really sure.

I'm going to shut up now, because I am just rambling--LOL :D

Okay ... if you really want to get serious :p ... go to http://top40.com. You can pick the year and I believe you can choose between country and rock 'n roll. Or, if you do a google on baby boomers music, you can find some great sites.

Hope that helps. !thumbsup!

Blessings, Francine

Thanks for the reminder . . . my dad's birthday is less than a week away, and I've been wanting to put together a CD for him of some of his/our favorite songs. Looking over this list has brought some to mind! Thanks!
