The Paul Zindel First Novel Award is available to individuals 18 years or older who are legal residents of the 50 states and Washington D.C. You must submit an original work of fiction that is between 100 and 240 typewritten pages and is appropriate for an audience of children ages 8 to 12. You must not have any published works in existence to be eligible for this award. The winner of this contest will win a book contract and a $1500 cash prize.

Angel, I know your books are more for the Young Adult crowd but it might be worth entering. Merry, I know your book is targeted at that audience.

Of course, this rule will kind of hamper you:

1. Manuscripts sent to Hyperion Books for Children may not be submitted to other publishers or media companies while under consideration for this award.

Still, it's only until the middle of July.

Whooooo....I like. Thank you Gump! Hey, Gump, while I'm here, my computer, which is off for its last attempt at re-building was at the middle of a police problem last night. The local cops called and said they were getting complaints from some guy I never heard of saying that someone from my house keeps calling his number. My kids didn't know anything about it, so I asked for the number and it was the one msn dial up uses for my computer...so every time we used the computer, it apparently called his house...(okay, I think that's funny but if it happened TO me I probably wouldn't think so.. :D )ANyway, is it possible that was why my computer was so pitiful at signing in and freezing up? It always lost the connection like 10 seconds into usage, I had to keep dialing (and consequently kept this poor guy running for the phone...heh-heh..)

I still think that computer is headed for the scrap pile, by I am looking forward to having Blueberry, the MAC, come home with his shiny new modem. :)

_____Ok, that was the first thing that came to my mind - no idea why. So, another contest. Sigh- :( My work is out to so many, and I will more than likly hear from a publisher here in a week or so. The other six or so out there I have no idea about.
_____Yes, I know the ol' argument about just telling the publisher off. :p I still love that idea! !thumbsup! However, I'm very busy now with quite a few things. I'm just tickled that I have the time right now to write this little thing up.
_____Keep the good news flowing mate' - arg!

Shoot! I just read through the rules say a contemporary fiction novel or one set in America. My monster novel (apiece of contemprorary fiction set in America)was fried by the virus (Moment of silence please, thank you) and Doc Dilly.....I've been furiously working on him long-hand since machine trouble, but even if it were finished in time...Hmmm, I couldn't class it as contemporary, or American fiction, unless I want to say the Tropic Kingdom is really Florida... :D :D ....ah what the heck, no guts, no glory, the worst they can say is 'no.' Mu-hah-hah....

Oh, I didn't realize your monster youth piece was completely gone. I just checked my hard drive and I still have a copy of the first two chapters (early draft).

Wow!!!! Gump, you're so cool! Of course, I'd still need to re-write that whole thing...talk about an example of passive voice, yikes! But it does help jog the memory as to where I was going. Yeah, I can't believe it, even the floppy's I used to save it on picked up the virus and kept feeding it back to the computer every time I used them...the story was wiped from them, too.

Merry, you think Soul Stealers would pass as a YA book?
