Due to the issue of posting means published (to some), is there a way to attach a story to be critiqued without posting it? If yes, are we permitted to do so?

Thanks - elbib

You can post attatchments as a .doc file or as a .zip file. I believe when you go to post and you click on the download manager, it should give you a list of accepted file types and sizes.

Are you saying that when I post to the writers group, I am in a way submitting it for publication, if that is so then I've made some major boo boos.....I thought If I submitted it to you via the magazine ( submit your work) you published it. I did not think that allowing it to be critqued amounted to being published... Help me out here!

I submitted a story here for the magazine section, which I also wanted to enter into a Writer's Digest contest. I contacted Writer's Digest because I did not want to violate their 'must be unpublished' rule. They informed me that they considered posting on a website to be published. THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT EVERYONE ELSE FEELS THE SAME WAY!

I am attaching my stories to be critique because I don't know if the other places I want to submit my stories to feel the same way. Until I find out, I will attach my stories.

I realize opening an attachment can be scary with all the junk going around. I understand the hesitation.

Sorry if this is bad news.

I won't open attachments. I did it one time and recieved a virus that deleted everything from my hard drive. I have opened a couple here, but it is scarey for me and I just don't want to take the chance. I'm not sure how this will affect our postings but it seems as if it must affect them in some way.

What about those you post in the crit groups, are they also considered published?

This is the first time I've ever posted anything I've written.

My email to Writer's Digest was concerning posting on a website designed for writers.

I just called Highlights for Children and they feel the same way as Writer's Digest. The lady I spoke with said if it was a private group, not opened to the public, it would be all right.

I'm sure many people feel the way you do about attachments. I'm one of them. At this point I'm not sure what to do.

So - what to do? - I'm not sure!

Sorry - elbib

I guess the best way to handle it is to only post to the private crit groups here at CW. I assume they are not open to the public.

How about it Rebecca, are they open to the public?

The private critique groups are private.

As for attatchments, you can get good a/v software at http://www.free-av.com or http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php . If you keep your definitions updated regularly that should eliminate 95% of the risk. Also, don't enable macros on .doc files.

Where is Rebecca? Is she not in charge anymore? I see you and merry answering forum questions and or misplaced posts ect. I kinda miss Rebecca. Everything is so diffrent without her and Connie around.

NO PROBLEM, JUST CURIOUS!

Hi Shirley,

I'm still around keeping an eye on things, but incredibly busy with other projects and personal matters as well. William and Merry have been kind enough to help out in the crunch. I truly appreciate all their support. :)

It's nice to be missed, though... and don't worry, things should calm down soon enough, and you'll be stuck with me again. lol! ;)

Thats a stuck, I'd be happy to be stuck with.

Yes no doubt they are doing a fine job and I meant no disrespect to them.

Looking forward to having you back.
