Hi everybody,

I would like to make you aware of a few changes I'm considering for the forums. I'm looking for your feedback and suggestions, so please let me know what you think! :)

The changes are:

I would like to create a new user group, called "Newbie Member." This group is for people who are newly registered. To achieve regular "CW Member" status, they must make x number of posts. Currently I have x set at 10, however I may raise it to 20 or more. The reason for this is to discourage "post-and-run" users from utilizing the forums. Post-and-run users are users who register, post their own ads or work for critique, but never participate in or contribute to the community. I'd like to discourage that "take only" mentality, and instead promote a place where we all contribute and help one another out.

The Newbie Member group has many of the same permissions as the CW Member group, with the following exceptions:

They can't yet use a custom avatar, signature or title
They can't yet start a thread in the critique workshops, although they may leave feedback for others
They can't yet post on the "Ads & Services" board at all. This one is especially important, because I want to avoid spammers on this board. Most spammers will avoid going to the effort to participate so much in the community just to post their ad.

Once a user has made an adequate number of posts, they will automatically move to the regular CW members forum, which will enable all the usual privileges. ;)

As I mentioned before, I have already created a new Ads & Services (http://4Believers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41) board. This is ONLY for established members who are recommending or providing services of use to other writers. I'm talking manuscript editing, business cards or websites, writers' retreats, and other relevant services. Mortgage, offshore pharmacy, or viagra ads need not apply. :p

I'm also thinking of adding a new, off-topic forum. This forum would be for discussions which are relevant to Christian life or walk, but don't directly involve writing. There are some fascinating discussions on the Open Forum, such as the evolution threads, and necessary ones such as the prayer requests, that I don't want to lose. I definitely want to encourage this sort of discussion. Still, since they don't directly involve writing, perhaps they would be better off in their own spot, so we can keep the Open Forum more on topic?

What are your thoughts on this, and the other proposed changes in general? I'd love to get your feedback! :)

Rebecca

Just thought I'd link to the active thread on the same topic for anyone who might have missed it: http://4Believers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1974
