Through last weekend, Prince Caspian had grossed just about $140 million at the US box office -- it supposedly cost $200 million to make. This is not quite half what LWW did ($292M).

At least nine movies this year (so far) have beaten it at the box office: Iron Man, Dark Knight, Hancock, Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda, Indiana Jones, Horton Hears a Who, and Sex & the City. For comparison's sake, LWW was the #2 movie of 2005, behind only Star Wars 3.

This does not bode well for the entire series being made.

I really hate that. I liked the 2nd movie a lot, but thought that of all the books, this was the most weak.

This was a summer when a lot of good movies came out. I have been to the theater more this summer than the last 5 summers all together.

I must say that I didn't like the Indiana Jones movie at all, but it had all the hype.

The movie was all about the battle. But in the book the battle only took a couple of pages or so. I think that loyal readers of the series were more interested in the characters than in the fighting. Yeah, they wanted to do something to pull in the younger viewers who maybe weren't already familiar with the books. But it looks like they miscalculated.

I think The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is next in line, and it could easily be the best of the series.

If they do it right.

If they had done the movie like the book, it would have been a very boring movie. By that I mean, a lot of walking and talking. That is mostly what happened in the book--to my recollection.

What I think is interesting are all the age levels in the theaters. I noticed the same thing with LOTRs.

I actually enjoyed the movie. I thought the special effects were done better than in the first movie, and the story was fun to watch.

The movie was brilliant, absolutely loved it.

I didn't post this to say I didn't like the movie. Far from it -- I hope they keep making more, but the next one will probably have a smaller budget.
