View Full Version : 3D anyone?
Just came back from Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D. The story was entertaining enough (don't expect it to be award winning), but the effects were lots of fun. It just happened that one of my old 5th grade students was sitting behind me in the theater and he was having a blast.
It did have some funny lines, too.

Oh, thanks for the info, Toni. Glad to hear it. You've encouraged me to go see it.

Would that be a movie about the Jules Verne book? I read that most of the way through and enjoyed it... ages ago.

Yes, it is. I think it's made 4 or 5 times.

Thanks Lynn... sounds interesting. One of my favorite Jules Verne is "the mysterious island". Did you ever read that one?

The only Jules Verne movie I've ever seen is the old "20,000 leagues..." starring Kirk Douglas. I haven't ever watched any others. But I've enjoyed a number of his books, and I don't normally like sci-fi. Maybe it's because it's so old that it's no problem... anyway, I really like them.

I read Journey to the Center of the Earth. I watched an earlier movie that was supposed to be based on the book... and it was NOT EVEN CLOSE to being based on the book.
Hopefully this one will be more true to the book.

This movie doesn't retell the Jules Verne story. The characters try to prove that Jules Verne's story is about a real place--which keeps it from being a stale reenactment of previous movies.
It reminded me of the movie Twister in that I could see the massive holes in the story (especially scientific inaccuracies) but I was willing to suspend my disbelief because I was having so much fun watching the movie.
Even watching the trailers (some of which were in 3D) was fun with the 3D glasses on.

I've had a version of Journey to the Center of the Earth on videotape for years, the only good movie Pat Boone ever made. It had a few logical problems, such as finding dry brittle bread in ruins that had been buried in water, but for the most part it was well done.

I would love to see that one again.

I liked him in The Cross and the Switchblade (1970)as David Wilkerson. (And don't forget a young Erik Estrada as Nicky Cruz.)
