I don't have trouble trusting God. I do have trouble knowing I will have the faith that I need to get a prayer answered. Or I have trouble with not knowing what God will answer and what he won't.
We don't always like the plans that God has for our life, or the plans that end up happening to us because of some life choice we have made or because of a lack of faith we have or as.. like I see it, Adam's nature. Some call it fate I look at is as God set things in motion and sometimes bad things just happen.
I don't really think we doubt God we just know that we are not getting what we are asking for when we want it. We must try to learn as I have the hard way that we don't always get what we ask for, we don't always understand why and we may never know why things happen or don't happen.
Sometimes the things we ask for are not what we really need and the Lord knows this, and sometimes he gives them to us anyway and then later we see that we would have been better off if he'd not answered the prayer.
I know a man that begged for the lord to help him loose weight, well he did loose weight he got cancer and he's all right now but he had a battle for a long time.
I know that some of you will disagree with me but i truly think sometimes we ask for things not knowing that in reality God is trying to help us by not answering our prayers.
Do I trust God ... Yes i do. Do I trust me ... now there lies the question.

I know exactly what you mean, Jacks. Sometimes my trust in God is amended with "Oh, and can I have a map of how this will work out?"

Trusting is the problem, I think. We know God wants what is best for us. But oh, there are times when we think we know better than God.
If we could step outside our circumstances and away from the problems, then I think all of us would say, "Yes, Lord ... I'm so glad YOU are in control and I'm not." But it goes further than than, doesn't it?
It's one thing to live within circumstances others have created ... and I think it's easier to trust God then, after all, we're asking for His strength to make it through. It's an entirely different thing when we have to make the hard choices that we know will be painful.
If we can focus on Christ and nothing else, we so clearly see the Creator knows what's best for what He's created.
Blessings, Francine

Right on Writer Girl, I like the points you make.
If we could step outside our circumstances and away from the problems, then I think all of us would say, "Yes, Lord ... I'm so glad YOU are in control and I'm not." But it goes further than than, doesn't it?
Yes we need to see that even when things are not going our way that we still have to say Lord I can't see the whole picture as you can help me deal with the things that don't go the way i think they should.

Thank you for visiting this subject. The following is actually a repost that I think is appropriate to this inquiry because I was ensnared by this faith-deflecting tactic for so long...functioning like a freed slave, still tethered psychologically and arrested spiritually via guilt...completely unable to walk in the liberty of salvation...:
Don't doubt in the dark...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The enemy (accuser) is crafty enough to convince you, particularly in times of adversity or weakness (physical, mental, spiritual, otherwise), to draw the distinction between faith in what God can do and faith in what He will do, based on your worthiness or lack thereof.
i.e. Do you deserve His help?...are you righteous enough to warrant such recompense...?
This entire line of reasoning is specious and definitely not scriptural because outside of the covering of the blood of Jesus Christ none of us are worthy, deserving or righteous.
Unfortunately, memory enables us to retain the feelings of guilt associated with the sin for which we receive forgiveness.
We must instead remember that we are not under the law but saved by grace:
"For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." (Romans 6:14)
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" (Ephesians 2:8)
"Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;" (Ephesians 6:14)
Jesus Christ is our righteousness (Zidkenu)! :
"For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (Romans 8:3-4)
"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." (Ephesians 6:13)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would just add:
"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:15-16)

I have been in situations over the last few years where I had to decide to trust God and obey Him even though it might turn out badly if I did. I did surrender my will to God's and it did turn out badly for me. But it wasn't because I didn't trust Him or because I mistook what He told me. I did what He wanted and I got hurt because of it.
In CS Lewis' THE SILVER CHAIR, I'm paraphrasing here, Puddleglum is required to let a raving lunatic go because it's one of the signs Aslan gave. Puddleglum says, "This may be the death of us, but that doesn't get us out of obeying the sign and letting him go."
Sometimes we do what God wants, and things still turn out badly. Look at all the martyrs that obeyed God and were killed. The question is not do we trust God enough to obey Him and believe things will turn out right, but do we trust Him enough to obey Him when it doesn't seem any good can come out of it. Do we trust Him then?

Sometimes we think God isn't going to answer because He isn't on our time table, and He doen't go about working it out like we think He should. We ask and while we are asking we are formulating a backup plan just in case God doesn't come through. Or maybe we get tired of waiting and we ready ourselves to spring into action while He is working things out for the good of all concerned. Our lives overlapp and we aren't all there is. He cares for everyone, and if left to work things out as we ask, will do so for the good of all concerned.
Sometimes bad things do happen because we don't live in a vacumn. Someone elses sin has repercussions on us, our sin touches others and so on. And let us not shoulder the entire blame and do let us recall that Satan prowls this earth looking for someone to devour, a Christian he can trip up or cause to doubt. He knows scripture too. It's impossible to please God without faith, yet faith isn't a feeling. It's obedience. Choosing to believe even when there isn't any evidence of an answer, of God; Shaking that fear and doubt off (Bible tells us God hasn't given us a spirit of fear-so doubt isn't from God) and saying, "God, I choose to believe even if I don't feel like it for You've said You can do anything, and I believe it, even if I don't feel it right now." Let me tell you, there is nothing in this world that pleases God more than when His children believe in Him in the face of overwhelming odds. That's His cue to step right in and do something miraculous. Christians, I'm testifying to the truth here. I've read it in His Word. I've seen it done for others, I've experienced it in my own life more than once. I may not know how He's going to work it out, but I know He will. Amen!
God always answers prayers, just not always in the way we expect or want. "No" also is an answer. I ask God why can't i have what everyone else is having. Why is my life so hard? what are you trying to teach me?
I know there is reason why my life if the way it is. God has a plan, maybe it is meeting someone that if i had a child i woudln't be able to meet. it has also taught me a lot of patience and trust. two things that are hard for me.
And even when we have been given promises from God we doubt about when they are going to happen and how. Satan knows our fears and plays on them. Praise God that is he stronger than any demon.

I have been studying on this very topic and I have come to find that in the Lord's Prayer outlined in Matthew, Jesus says something quite simple, yet profound. He says "thy Will be done on earth as it in heaven". I began praying that way. When I pray for something or someone I use the phrase: "Lord, let your Will be done in my daughter, Britney's life as it in Heaven." I have to say that since I have been praying this way I have been seeing amazing results! God bless!

It is amazing, isn't it, Tracy?

Excellent point, Tracy. Welcome to CW, by the way. Trusting that God's will will be done on Earth as in Heaven--where crowds of angels are constantly worshipping him--is probably the best way to handle it. As long as we don't stand up and say, "Okay, I'll take my problem back now."

A friend prayed about buying a snazzy sports car. Yet, he felt that perhaps he shouldn’t buy it, even though he never received an explanation of why. He prayed again, rephrasing his prayer about needing a car – that car. Again he thought that God might be trying to tell him not to buy it. So, what did he do?
He hurried up and bought it before God had another chance to convince him not to.
Hello? Does anybody know how many and what kind of problems that car gave my friend? And can anybody guess who got blamed for “allowing him to buy a piece of junk”?

I have heard other Christians say the same thing. A friend told me she had felt the Lord directing her to purchase this car, a station wagon I beleive. But she wanted a van. So despite all these obstacles placed before her, she purchased the van and in no time it broke down; the price to fix was so high she couldn't afford to get the work done. It was worse than I've indicated here. She got behind in payments because it was much more than she could afford in the first place. She would tell her story though trying to impart some wisdom in others. Bless her heart.

I asked the Lord to help me find the little dog that would be a perfect mate for my little jack when we lost our puppy. well i prayed and prayed and i found the little guy on line in a pound. he is perfect and I praise God that he led me in the right way and that though maxy had long legs and is a littler taller than jack he is very timid and the perfect mate.
if we listen sometimes we will hear the right answer.
