I love to write long story poems. I am new to this site and I am not sure how to even begin to publish them. I would love some advice on that. Anytime I see poetry contests they require short poems with a certain amount of words. Thanks for your help all! !thumbsup!

Long story poems are an endangered species. Most poets (myself included) are the 'short sharp shock' troops of writing's diverse army. My initial question would be why you're going to write a 'story' poem when a short story is probably more marketable. Though, having said that, those of my poems that are 'narrative meditations' would fit a 'free verse story poem' description.
When you've passed the 5 post apprenticeship here put one of yours up in the poetry workshop so we can discuss the animal in question.

Some of my poems are "poems that tell a story", not all. If you have a copy of the: "Best Loved Poems of the American People" there are many many examples in there under "poems that tell a story".
For instance: James Whitcomb Riley wrote "An Old Sweetheart of Mine" and other poems from Abraham Lincoln and Edgar Allan Poe in there.
