As writers, we are masters of language and expression. Well, sometimes. :) When we feel silent and empty, what may truly encourage and inspire us are someone else's words. What are your favorite quotes?

"Write what you know. Know what you write." - unknown.

"Therefore Holy Brothers who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess..." - the writer of Hebrews chapter 3:1 When we concentrate on Jesus, all is right with the world whether it is or not.

Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else. (Gloria Steinem)

Here's a page of good quotes--the ones by Mark Twain, in particular, are as apt today as when penned (or spoken): http://home.att.net/~quotations/writing.html

My favorite writing quote would have to be the one that's mentioned on that site but not the way I first heard it.

A writer is no different than a prostitute. They start out doing it for love and end up doing it for money.

If you think about it, that really can keep your priorities checked.

If what Proust says is true, that happiness is the absence of fever, then I will never know happiness, for I am possessed by a fever for knowledge, experience, and creation.
(Anais Nin)

How could you not have 'fever' for something, anything? Proust must have been weird.

When you come to the end of all the light you know, and are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things will happen: there will be solid ground beneath you or you will be taught how to fly. (Edward Teller)

this is kind off subject but i thought it was kind of humorous for quotes.

I have wondered at times what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress. -- Ronald Reagan

A man of action forced into a state of thought is unhappy until he can get out of it.
-Kafka

You do not need to leave your room. Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even listen, simply wait, be quiet still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked, it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.
-Kafka

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. -Cs lewis
