What is the best way to get a complete site with database created?

My primary goal is to get it done CORRECTLY, but like everyone else I do have a budget. Are local development firms the way to go for advanced projects with large databases, or can freelancers handle it? Should I avoid freelancers for such a big important project or will they do the exact same thing but for cheaper?

Gorro, I think it depends on the type of website you want to create. Is it an intricate site for business or is it more of one that supports your books or writing? There are many freebie services that you can create your own website and can be very nicely done. I think it all depends on what you want to put in it. There are a couple of people here at CW that are web designers and can probably answer this much better than I have.
