Hey, an editor is working through a story with me and sent the above link as advice on dialog. Really excellent article; clarified a lot of what-ought-to-happen in written conversation. But then, who does the author use as an example of a guy who got it right? Why, Mike Snyder in his Russell Fink novel!
Nicely done, Mike!

I've heard that a lot in this life..."you just can't get away from this guy!"
Andy was very kind to use me as an example (or maybe he was hard up...or realized he owes me money!). And you're very kind for the shout out. I don't really claim to be any good at it, but I sure do love writing dialog. I love the sleight of hand and downright playfulness of trying to create 'realistic' conversations, which are obviously anything but realistic. When it works, it's great fun. When it doesn't...major, major frustration!
And I cannot begin to express what an awesome privilege it is to work with an editor that totally gets what I'm trying to do. I hope I never take that for granted!
Thanks again!
Mike

Excellent post. And the goth girl scene from Russell Fink did stand out to me from the first time I read the book.
