Boomtown was cited by many as the greatest show ever on TV. It also lasted only two episodes into its second season before the network decided to kill it off in favor of a new reality show and another iteration of Law & Order. Boomtown is a cop show that tells the story of a crime from multiple points of view--we see the story unfold through the eyes of the cops, the criminals, the DA, the media, and the paramedics involved. It's interesting how the same crime is portrayed slightly different with each change in POV.

I think of it as a literary show, what with the changing POVs. I won't say it always adhered to the highest of moral standards, particularly in the second season when the mandate was on to garner higher ratings. But I do find it interesting how many times reviews of the show noted how realistic the dialouge was without resorting to the use of profanity. One article I read even refered to writers of shows like The Shield and The Surpranos as lazy by comparison. It wouldn't call it G-rated, but it was definately a notch above most of the swill that's on TV now.

I guess you can tell I'm biased, but not only was that my favorite show, it was also the inspiration for my current novel. The DVD was released on July 20th, but already I'm seeing used copies floating around for $10. If you get a chance, and you like this sort of thing, do yourself a favor and check it out.

I much prefer Law & Order (and all of it's related shows). And, I am a reality show junkie.

However, I have noticed lately that a few of the reality show's are showing bloopers and retakes at the end of the episode. Hmmm.... If we have to do retakes is it really reality????

And, is it me, or are they getting a little bit too brazen on some of the reality shows?? Enough of the gratuitous profanity already. And please, I don't want to hear anymore about homosexual relationships and how they are so much in love. Nor do I want to see their nudity, even if it is blurred. And, why do the women always have to wear bikinis? Is that something in the show guidelines??

Thank you for listening to me vent-lol

Now that they've killed religion, the media elite are offering "reality shows" as the opiate for the masses. How ironic that they call them reality shows when they're not real, not even close. I shudder to think that future generations or even forign cultures would ever judge Americans today by the drivel on TV.

I watched Boomtown every now and then when it was on TV and I knew it wouldn't be on long. It was one of those rare shows that made viewers think and forced them to actively keep up with what was going on. There's a reason those kinds of shows are rare. People by and large prefer things pre-packaged and dumbed down.
