I've been thinking about a) joining, and b) attending the conference in September. How many of you here are members? Is is worth the fifty bucks? Finally, is anyone thinking about going to the conference?

As the old Bartles and Jaymes TV ads used to say, "thanks for your support" (and replies!) :D

Yes, I'm a member. Yes it's worth it. And yes, I'm attending the conference.

Hey John, if you decide to go to the conference, joining is worth the member discount. And if you do decide to go, lets have a special meeting for all of the CWers that attend. Maybe a late night chat or something so we can all meet each other! How 'bout that?

I joined a few months ago and am planning on going to the conference. I am very happy with their services. First, if you go to the conference, it's a hundred dollars cheaper for members. They have loops for writing classes, Regional groups and meetings (I'm going to my first Ohio chapter meeting Saturday), critique groups that they try to sort by writing level, networking and marketing for published books, and a nineteenth century research group for historical writers. I've found that editors, agents, and published writers are very active in this group and are very happy to give advice and answer questions. Overall, I think it's the best $50 I've ever spent and am definatly going to the conference even though it means lots of garage sales to earn the money.

I wouldn't mind knowing more... what is it, where's the conference, etc. Unfortunately, if it's not in Kansas City, Wichita, or Omaha, I'm pretty much precluded from going this year. *HARRUMPH!!!*

I've heard of the ACFW, but I can't remember the details.... :(

Gravity...what they said!

I'm planning on attending. The jury's still deliberating however.

Hope to see a bunch of you there!

I'm a member. Good people! !thumbsup!

Undecided on the conference though... The spirit is willing, but the wallet is weak. :o

Well, John, I'm not a member (not much of a joiner :) - but anyone who's seen my posts on CW knows I think that it's a near essential step for aspiring writers and a very smart idea for the published. (Hmmm, maybe that means I'm not very smart!!). At the conf you may find yourself in situations that grease the wheels of your career train like just submitting, even through your great agent, just can't or won't.

I vote yes!

Nope. I should do this kind of thing but... anyway, I have 2 (that's not a typo - though one is half way done right now) books due between now and the first of October so I'm not going anywhere.

Shoot! Oh well, maybe at some later date. Guess you have your work "cut out" for you to use a cliche.

I'm working out the financial end, but if possible, I'd still like to go...

John, I'll try to help you out with that: how do I buy one of your books? I mean, so that you'll get the most out of it (like buying from you directly vs. buying from Amazon, which takes their cut, I assume). And which one should I read first. (I told you all the way back in Lent that I would get one of your books, and I'm still planning on it.)

Waiting to be impressed,
Preacher

Thanks, Preacher; that's very nice of you! If you wanted to start with the first one, Until The Last Dog Dies, you can get it from amazon (they don't take a cut from me), and since it's now out of print, the price is right: a penny plus shipping. The next two in the series, When Skylarks Fall and To Skin a Cat, are still in print and can also be ordered from amazon, so they'd be more, around twelve-fourteen bucks. Thanks again.

I'm going to the Early Bird session so I'll be there on Wednesday. I'm going to think of something, someway to find a place, time etc and then e-mail everyone or ??? I know we can do this. Maybe at one of the lunches, we can have someone announce that all CW members meet at some preplanned spot?

Let us know how it went when you get home.

I'm planning on going to the Oregon Christian Writers conference this summer. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm sure this ACFW conference will be great. I think I read that Angela E. Hunt is the keynote speaker this year? I havn't read many of her newer books but alot of her older stuff was really superb!

Preacher - Dogs was a good read. Ufortunately I didn't contribute to John's funds as I got it through ILL - from my old stompin' grounds in Klamath Falls, as a matter of fact.

Have fun at the conference everyody.

I know, the first day of the conference at breakfast all CW members can wear those little birthday hats. That way we can find each other. (just kidding)

Those of you going need to be sure to take a group shot and identify who everyone is (real and screen names!) and post it here for those of us unfortunate enough not to be able to attend... :)

I could wear my cowboy hat. I did write a historical western, and it's a cool hat.
