Hey y'all,

I just had my first memoir published, about my life as a preacher's daughter (shoutout to the PK bunch)!

Are any other memoirists out there, "official" or not (this includes journalers), who'd like to compare notes? I'm wondering how others found the process, whether it intensified their faith, or caused them to reevaluate it, as it played out against their lives? Did you see the roll of God in retrospect, where you hadn't, before?

I found the entire process to be very cathartic, but bittersweet.

Anyone else out there?

First, congratulations on your publication. Did you post this in the Publishing success forum? If not, you should so others can leave their congrats! And no, I haven't written my memoirs. Sorry, I'm no help.

Hi Elizabeth

I am going threw the process at the moment ,writing a book about my life as a witch, Its on hold for a while mainly because off the writer.

I have found it to be , where at times I will need extra support, but I have found that deep down I get a calling to go back to my book , as its what God wants, I know it.

IM having time out for a little time, than I will have to return to the book, Its what God wants, so I can only run away for awhile. I will be looking for a new writer, one that will go co writer.

my book will be about how God can make any one free. NOTHING is impossible for Jesus, and the freedom we get from him and only from him.
I glory god to the highest.

Most of the magazine articles I've had published are about things I have experienced, mission trips, church ministries, and things like that. I have kept copies of them and hope that maybe my great grandchildren will know a little about me after I am gone.

Congrats on your book! Memoirs are especially difficult to sell, so you deserve extra kudos :)

I'm working on a memoir about my daughter's extreme prematurity and our struggles with it. I always saw God in this story, but writing about it just solidifies what I already believed. It's been VERY difficult to write this book; I began it about a year after she was born, so everything is still very fresh. It is a healing process, though.

Yes, congratulations. Who did you publish with?

Just checked back in, so I'll try to answer everyone in one fell post:

tlm -- My book was published by the Center Street imprint of the Hachette Book Group (formerly Warner Books, they were bought out last year). It's entitled Trespassers Will Be Baptized: The Unordained Memoir of a Preacher's Daughter. Thanks so much for your congrats. I can now hold it in print and see it in the stores, and I'm still not quite convinced it happened.

kriswrite -- Would you believe I wanted to write fiction and was encouraged to try and sell the memoir first. i was told "memoirs are the new black right now." In my opinion, the market was overrun by very dark memoirs, primarily written by people who had had terrible life experiences and childhoods. Not that I don't think these are valuable, but I just wanted to write a good, "happy" account. There aren't too many of those (and fewer from PKs, unfortunately). I think your story sounds very worthwhile, and will be an great resource and witness to someone going through the same struggle. Having just had a first child, I can only imagine the anguish you must have endured. Isn't it amazing how reliving the story in print gives you a new set of eyes with which to see the experience? It's a true gift of perspective.

seagirl -- Wow, your story sounds so intriguing! I'd buy it. I'd love to hear more about your journey.

What a great title! Congrats on the new book.

No advice on other memoirists, though, sorry
