View Full Version : Screenwriting as Bible Study?

Has anyone else done this?

I took the Gospel According to John and wrote it as a screenplay. Staying true to and including every word in Scripture (I used the NIV - this was a few years ago - 199-something).

The study for me was incredible. The focus on writing wasn't only exigetical but very pointedly so. Every word spoken, every action taken had to be said or done in the context of getting a response from someone (specically someone) in the immediate moment.

In addition to that the response had to be noted as well. The study of Jesus' discourse to hios doisciples in the last supper was incredible.

I highly advise any writer - especially writing for screen because you are forced into a realm that asks for visuals, immmediacy, relationshipment and story movement that other media allow you to escape from.

Let me know if you've had similar experiences with this?

As a screenwriter, anything that forces you to write visually is very good. I commend you, Jecca's Dad for tackling that. I might try it sometime. Have your written any other screenplays?
