then He takes us down to the valley to batter us into the shape of the vision, and it is in the valley that so many of us faint away. Every vision will be made real if we will have patience.... God has to take us into the valley, and puts us through fire and floods.... Until we get to the place where He can trust us with the veritable reality.... Let Him put you on His wheel and whirl you as He likes, and as sure as God is GOd and you are you, you will turn out exactly in accordance with the vision."
-Oswald Chambers
I just found this on a slip of paper that I think was handed out at our last men's meeting by the guy who directed "Generations," a musical out church put on - and is going to take to Israel.
I thought it apropos to those of us who are struggling with the path we have chosen to walk to be writers.
Dr. Daniel ended his talk with this:
Be it unto me according unto your word.
What has the Lord created me to do?
Am I willing to trust His heart for me? Has He accomplished everything in His heart and dreams for me?
I've had this on a 3x5 card wedged in my keyboard, where I see it everyday. And I've added the slip of paper w/ the quote by Chambers.
May God batter us into the shape of the vision He's given us.
God Bless.

Timber Wolf,
This really made me LOL. It helped me to understand where I am at with my writing.
I feel I am in the valley being battered - or on the Potters wheel being whirled about. I cannot concentrate on my writing. I force myself to sit down at the computer - but I just sit and stare at what I have already written.
Hopefully I will be battered into shape very soon!
Blessings.

Reminds me of the lyrics to Refiners Fire:
Purify my heart,
let me be as gold and precious silver.
Purify my heart,
let me be as gold, pure gold.
(Chorus)
Refiner's fire,
my heart's one desire
is to be…holy;
set apart for You, Lord.
I choose to be…holy;
set apart for You, my Master,
ready to do Your will.
Purify my heart,
cleanse me from within
and make me holy.
Purify my heart,
cleanse me from my sin, deep within.

To Anne Woodburne. If it was me I would just start writing a story about why a writer forces themself to always just sit and stare at the computer. I'm serious. It might help get your creative juices flowing or it could lead to a story. I learned you write the first thing that comes to your mind. No matter if you ever use it or not. I don't know if that helps. God Bless You.

I, too, thank you for sharing, TW. I love Oswald Chambers. The two greatest things we can pray are...
Be it unto me according to Your Word and Your will be done in my life.

KOAWGS34,
Just found your post. Thank you for sharing. I did sit down at the computer today - was able to work on a story I started a few weeks ago.
The "block" is beginning move away. [ It was scary! ] The creative juices are beginning to flow once again. Praise God!
Bless you,
Anne Woodburne

Nice post, Timber Wolf. I want to add that God's vision and our vision of His vision don't always correspond as nicely as we'd like. The life of Joseph is truly instructive in how the visions and dreams we have as young people come to fruition through our suffering.
How many times have we prayed for faith, or joy, or patience (ask if you dare!), and then recoiled just as God begins to answer those prayers by leading us into the situations where faith, joy, or patience are called for?
It's easy to confuse "the Good Life" with a life that is good.

Who in their right mind would pray for patience?
I made the mistake of asking for patience................ yup, He is still answering that prayer much to my dismay.
Very good point, Michael. It is very easy to confuse "the Good Life" with a life that is good. Joseph is one of my favorite people from the Bible along with David.

I don't know about you but I am much more careful and thoughtful about what I pray for because I know the Good Lord will answer. And He rarely answers the way I want Him too. :)

TW, Oswald never minces words, does he. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. For the last couple of weeks my computer has been calling and I have been ignoring. I fell in the valley! But you have reminded me to persevere.
