My desire, I think, is to write non-fiction books. But, I am interested in so many areas. Would my time be wasted writing in as many areas as I possibly could?

To me, if you have an interest and desire to write, then you should write in those areas of interest, however diversified they may be. Others may have a different viewpoint. Also, if you write non-fiction, you have to think about your platform. That means, for non-fiction, you need to look into writing for magazines, print or online.

If you haven't stumbled upon it, check it out the thread on platforms I just started. You will find it very helpful.

I agree with Lynn. Of course, if you find that writing in lots of areas is preventing you from completing projects, then you need to rethink things and prioritize. In fact, since we all have limited time, prioritizing is important anyway. Go with your heart, and temper it a bit with what's practical. :)

That said, it can be extremely useful to build up a body of work on a parituclar subject you'd like to write books (or a book about). For example, if you long to write a book about surfing, you'd best write a bunch of articles on that subject, too. That's part of building a "platform;" check out the recent thread on that topic to get a better idea of what I mean.

Tim,

I'd suggest Write His Answer by Marlene Bagnull and any of her workshops. They are budget-friendly and I have found her to be very encouraging.

I think you will sense without a doubt when you are writing within your gift because the joy of it just takes on a life of its own. The main thing is write, write, write!!!
