View Full Version : Letting Go

When one loves something
(True love I’m saying),
One will learn to set it free.
Love is not selfish or possessive
Or even aggressive
If then it’s not true love (do you agree?)

But call it selfish lust
That wouldn’t last
(Don’t be mistaken with the two you know)
For if somebody one really love
And that love is from above
One will learn to let it go.

Just leave it in God’s hands
Although, some things we don’t understand
But if it really belongs to thee,
Only time will tell
God knows this too well
If it’s really meant to be.

Real love tries;
It never really dies,
But it had to do what’s right.
Call it real trust
That would prove that the past
Had not been a worthless fight.

But if it proves to be not worth it
Then good thing you’ve done it
It’s best inside God’s will.
For there you’ll find rest
And all the best
With no regrets to feel.

If you love something set it free
If it’s true then you’ll see
It will never really go away.
True love doesn’t need cords or chains
Since it’s God who hold the reins—
Forever it is bound to stay.

But in this letting go,
How would one know?
But some things one just have to do.
Yes, it’s really hard and heartbreaking,
But God will do the healing
It’s for the best, by and by he’ll show.

Trust in the Lord, He mean best,
And he knows all the rest,
Just on His will never part.
You’ll be glad you let it stand,
On its own feet and hand
It to God for He knows the heart.

(Sigh…) Letting go….
Is this goodbye? (I don’t know)
I’ll terribly miss you my dearest friend.
But I just want you to know,
In this letting you go,
I pray this is not The End.

I wrote this song for my high-school graduation seven years ago. Now that I’m a high-school teacher in our Christian School, I have witnessed friends, students, and even loved ones come and go. My heart always go back to this poem. God always gives the grace to let go and go on. :)
