For all of you who would be inclined to visit a film festival if it were more faith based . . . here's one that I think might be worth attending.

Redemptive Film Festival (www.redemptivefilms.com)

Oh yeah, and if you have films that might qualify, the submission deadline is coming up in June.

That's cool, Doc! What a great thing! I hope it grows tremendously in popularity and influence.

It's a 'redemptive film festival' that states that films do not have to be religious (although they do have a 'gospel' category) but they do have to be 'family friendly'. The film I'm working on is redemptive (I hope) but certainly not family friendly! Can't Christian adults ever watch anything without their kids ?????? My film has sex and violence, paedophilia and homosexuality - but its message is redemptive. Somehow though, I doubt it would be considered 'Christian' :(

I hear you fevsmith . . . but I fear this one is a bit more conservative on how you get the message across. However, go to the website and check it out. I didn't read the whole thing. There might be a place for the grittier kind of redemptive story.

It looks like a good site and they're obviously more open than a lot of Christian filmmakers by acknowledging that films don't have to be overtly religious to be redemptive - hear hear! - but it's the family values bit that worries me. Not that my family values include sex, violence, paedophilia and homosexuality, mind ;) But you know what I mean. I tried to contact them to ask them to define more clearly what 'family friendly' entailed, but I got an error message. Never mind. Looks like they want full films anyway, not just scripts.

Yeah, that's the problem with most film festivals. If you'd had the good fortune to find the "man with the money" to produce your own film then you can enter it. Some festivals do have a screenplay contest for just scripts but I didn't check it out. Maybe this one does.
