View Full Version : internet publishers, Authorhouse?
Does anyone have any experience with authorhouse.com?
A friend of mine is thinking about using them for a children's book. I would like to be able to give her some advice.

Well, with all publishers, it's best to check by Preditors & Editors (http://www.invirtuo.cc/prededitors/), Writer Beware (http://www.sfwa.org/Beware/) and Writer Beware blogs (http://accrispin.blogspot.com/).
As you can see here (http://accrispin.blogspot.com/search?q=authorhouse), AuthorHouse turns up quite a few entries at Writer Beware blogs. Preditors & Editors gives them a "Not Recommended", and they have had suit libel put against them. They are routinely described as a vanity publisher - in other words, they'll take your money, put your books in print with little to no quality control, and then stick you with the bill for everything else.
If you want to be a legitimately and commercially published author, it seems AuthorHouse is a large step in the wrong direction.
