Okay, there was the thread by Nighthawk with the link to the Thomas Nelson article on writing a proposal. I found another sample at the Alive Communications website.

I thought if anybody else found one, they could post to this thread and we could have a resource for writing book proposals.

Here's one that the authors sold to Bethany House in seven weeks:

I haven't read the book yet (as I've 16 reviews to write this month - AAAHHHH!), but I did find an autographed copy at the half-priced bookstore - is that a deal or what?

That's great. I've been looking all over for a fiction proposal like that. I was beginning to think you couldn't find one on the net without paying for it. :D

You're welcome. So far, I'm finding that writing an intellegent novel proposal is almost harder than writing the novel itself.

Yes, excellent information on here, William, thank you very much. Hope the book proposal is going well!

Wow! Thanks for this info-- this totally answers a question that I have been struggling to answer all afternoon. I should have checked here first :) There's a lot of info out there on nonfiction book proposals, but I'm happy to see these ideas for fiction.

I have been reading up on the topic of writing book proposals. For fiction, that generally means a query letter, a synopsis and sometimes sample chapters. For non-fiction it means a query letter and chapter summary (in place of the shorter synopsis). Here are some of the articles I have read:
Query letter

Synopsis

Whole books have been written on the subject of writing book proposals, but I have not yet read any of them. Has anyone any recommendations?
