Fasting; do you fast, how do you fast

I don't have much time at this moment to get every point out there I want but I was hoping to start the discussion on this.


I fast, I have ear fasts, I fast from TV from fun stuff on the computer, i fast from writing, from chocolate from sweets, I fast from food, I have even fasted a last bite on my plate that I wanted really bad.

What do you think of Fasting, is it fair to ask others to join you. i've been wanting to ask some friends to join me in a fast for my dad to get good results from his test. is this over stepping friendship.

I have fasted in the past often. I've fasted sweets and chocolate. I've gone on fasts where I ate nothing and only drank water. And I've gone on video fasts where I obstained from tv, the internet, movies, and secular music. Most of the time when I fasted, I felt led by God to fast. Sometimes, it was a church wide fast called by the pastor.

But 5 years ago, I was in a church that became very legalistic. Fasts became a way of showing spirituality or getting God to do something instead of a heart thing. During the last year I was there, 3 40 day churchwide fasts were called to get God to make the church grow larger. Of course, those who completely obstained from food were considered "more spiritual".

It turned me off so much that I no longer fast. I believe fasting can be a good thing. But because of the connotation that church gave me to fasting, I can't fast with the right attitude, so I won't do it. I hope someday to be able to fast again in the right way and with the right attitude.

I haven't fasted a lot for spiritual reasons before. I have fasted for cleansing reasons more. In this I've fasted 24 hrs a week, such as starting after dinner on a Thursday night and going to dinner Friday night. I can do that easy because basically all you are fasting is one breakfast and lunch. I know some folks who use this method as a way of life... they fast 24 hours every week and do it for spiritual reasons. As a matter of fact I think I heard of it from someone (Marliynn Hickey?) being interviewed on a religious show. I have done juice fasts before as well for 7-8 days.
Even when doing my fasts for health reasons I never make a show of it. Usually no one knows I'm doing it except hubby. Soooo.... I certainly disagree with big fast "show-downs" such as Tamera mentioned! I think fasting is a very personal thing and I'm not sure I would come right out and ask a friend to fast with me. They may be tempted to say yes because they really would like to but...?/think they should/or would feel guilty saying no. Then again, only you know your friends :).

The longest fast I have done was 28 days without a hot tea in the morning and it was consecutive so it wasn't easy but it was for my mother in law who had cancer, she lived 9 months after the doc said she would leave us.

If there is something that exites me is fasting…in 2005-2006 I fasted everyweek for the whole year BY GODS GRACE [not the whole week ..but two days one day of skip meals],i became used to it . we normally fast every month from Thursday to Sunday in our intercessory team but I always have mine separate ..am not that faithfull to it when am working ..also after the violence in our country pple really prayed a lot… so most of us relaxed a little in the beginning of this year but we are waking up before the enemy takes charge … …I love fasting it exites me if there is something in Christian walk I love is fasting followed by missions ..the most important thing I love about fasting is the presence of God and how your flesh dies and your spirit is so strong to hear Christ and his revelation I love it …we are having one end of this month am so exited to attend I cant wait…really cant wait I don’t know what God has to tell us but we can hear the shofar in the realm as a team ..God is calling on the intercessors in our country
