Can you see it in my eyes?
A restlessness in my soul
A need to fly as the eagle flies
A need to depart and see the world
To experience new highs
To fly beyond the horizon
where the earth meets the skies

Can you hear it in my voice?
A melody calling for something more
A longing for new laughter and joys
A longing for unfamiliar songs
To play and make childish noise
To speak in foreign tongues
To laugh and find a new choice
for today

I know you can see it in my walk
The hesitant steps I take
Moving forward while looking back
Eyeing the unwalked path
Dreaming of what could have been, alas
Never shall I see

Very well expressed. We often find ourselves wanting more but always out of fear hanging onto the familiar.

An all to familiar pattern you are describing here. A longing heart yet the inability to do as we want - stopping us from achieving what our blood is longing for.

Never is a harsh word - I do hope it will not be like that for you!

Greetings.

thanks for the comments :)

i realize this poem sounds somewaht depressing and i think thats kinda the point, heh. i wrote this at a particular time when i was feeling down about being held back by the will of God from living out old dreams. He, in His wisdom, has closed some of those doors to me. I may not understand why and am learning to trust in His sovereignty but still wonder sometimes what life could have been like if those doors had remained open to me and thats basically the feeling i was trying to capture in this poem.

Thanks for sharing this. Indeed our road is not often easily understood - mine was rough indeed at times - it is always for the better though - to think about that helped me a lot.

Having said this you captivated (and doused) your longing very well - and that is what matters here.

Great Work.
