View Full Version : oprah and God
I sometimes watch Oprah as there are some good things that you can learn. That will now change as today i was on youtube and heard some frightening things.
She doesn't think God is a belief, it is feeling. She is denying the power of Christ. It is something i can't undesrtand as God and Christ in my life is a big belief. How can you be a Christian but not believe in what Christ has done for you. she thought all you have to do is be good.
We should be aware of what "famous" people believe. We should make a concious effort not to be sucked in by their "celebrity". Above all we should take what is said in the Bible and not what others say if it goes agnaist hte Word of God..

That's pretty much what all "generic Christians" believe. They think they're on the Lord's side, yet their theology goes in directions that Bible writers never thought about, such as mere human goodness will earn a place in Heaven. And belief in God is only a feeling, or a feel-good condition that helps us through the rough spots. The latter one sometimes comes out as "Well, if that's what makes you happy" ...
Thank God that "I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I've committed unto Him against that day." (Everybody sing!)

I'm sure that you will find all of this interesting. I do not look at her in the same light and I don't watch her show anymore.
it's crazy what people believe.

Reading this brought this scripture to mind.
Passage Matthew 7 :
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Yep, there's a bunch of Crocodile Dundee Christians out there... In the first movie, he says, "Yep, I read the Bible once. You know Jesus and all them saints were fishermen. Yep, I figure me and Jesus, we'd be mates." (that's at least a close paraphrase).
Finding the right time and words to speak reality to people can be hard. We mainly just have to let His light shine through us, and pray for wisdom and knowledge about sowing seed, trusting Him to direct us. And, of course, pray for those who we believe may be deceived by a watered-down gospel -- it's still not too late for them to come around!
But, I definitely agree that we don't want to feed our minds with the stuff that is put out there by "good" people, especially when it is so clearly leading people down the wrong path.

I like that hymn among others.

Good Morning To All!
melw, you are right in your observation. The scary thing is that I think most of our opinions in America, the world come from what celebrities think and we base our judgement on that instead on The Word! We are a society that bases our thoughts on what we see and hear that tickles our ears! I do not care for Opra, everyone runs to her or Dr. Phil for advise when the Bible has clearly everthing you need to know right there in front of you! Unfortunately, we are a lazy society and would rather not have a mind of our own...that takes research and innventory on ones' own values and standards!
