I’ve found myself hunting any sort of piano music out there of late. Someone suggested Coldplay, but they mess up the music by trying to sing. Demon Hunter uses the piano in some of their music, and I’ve dug through the net for free piano music, still I want more. Does anyone have a band/song recommendation? I’m not looking for something that was written in the 1600s and still sounds like it’s from then. I’m looking for pop, rock, trance, ambient, something with a grove or a build to it. Oh and I do love romantic and depressing piano music.

No one else is interested in piano music? Odd. :)

Piano only or instrumentals with piano accompaniment?

I play piano music, and besides hymns and praise songs, I try to play some classics, piano rags (I love piano rags!), just random silly stuff. Don't know if that gives you any idea at all.

I'm like 777 when I want to hear the piano i just play it LOL. I used to know an easy listening radio station on line that I would listen to now and then but I've lost the link.

Sorry Dude, but I like Chopin and Liszt, the Tchaikovsky piano concerto...cool stuff! I also like the sound track to Halo 3. It inspired my kid to take up piano. Just for fun you should look up pipe organs, Bach's toccata and fugue..wait, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FXoyr_FyFw The instrument takes up half the building. it's cool!

And this one isn't piano music, but I thought you'd like it. It's one of the few online recordings I've heard of the 1812 Overture where they use real canons at the end. Cool!

What about some of the old Peter Nero, Henry Mancini, Ferrante and Teicher, etc.? Or are these not what you are looking for?

I guess I need to give examples of what I am after.

The song Stay Strong should start right when you get there.

Demon Hunter’s “Thorns” I enjoy a good bit.

I enjoy this soundtrack, but it picks up at the end.
Anyway, that covers the different verities that I hunt after. Hope that clears up what I’m looking for.

Well, what I meant was Coldplay is secular, so they mess up the songs with lyrics that make no sense.
Example:
And birds went flying at the speed of sound to show you how it all began, birds came flying from the underground if you could see them then you'd understand.
Ok so if I had a drop of acid, I could see birds flying up from the ground, and talk to Abe Lincoln in my shower.

I don't know about any pop music, but there's a series of albums that has WONDERFUL jazz renditions of some of the bigger jazz composers, like Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, etc. The series (I think) is called Piano Jazz Essentials, though I'm not 100% certain they're still available. I bought the couple CD's I have in my collection when I was in college (about 6 or 7 years ago!)
Diana Krall also tends to have some great stuff, even though it's all got lyrics, but most of her music is piano driven.
I'm sure if you look long and hard enough, you can find piano versions of some of the songs/artists that you like, but you'll probably have to really hunt for it.
Just so you know, when I first saw this, I thought you were after the sheet music! If that's the case, I'd recommend Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas stuff. Superb. I've nearly worn out one of my books of theirs--not only because of stains, but because I've broken the binding from playing 'Los Peces en el Rio' gobs of times. :) It's like 8 pages long and I can't play it as fast as they do on their CDs, but it's great, nonetheless.

As far as piano music goes, here's my list (and it's a good one!)
Brad Meldhau - He's a post-bop jazz guy, but does everything from originals to standards to very cool covers of Radiohead. All without vocals
Keith Jarret's The Melody At Night With You...unbelievably good, mostly standards.
Linford Detweiller - He's one half of the creative force behind Over The Rhine. He has two instrumental albums (mostly piano) that are quite moody and quite cool and very easy to write to.
Not sure if this last one qualifies, but Medeski, Martin, & Wood is a postmodern jazz trio that covers the entire jazz gamut, including the sunday school classic, Has Anyone Here Seen My Jesus?
For straight ahead, piano-driven pop music, try Ben Folds, Keane, and some Over The Rhine.
Hope that helps.
Mike
