I don't get a lot of time to take the Bible out and read it so I had an Idea. CW is always open and I always look at the new posts. So lets all take a turn now and then at popping up a verse and letting people know what Version it's from and just do a little reading and discussions of the verse of the day.
What do you think? May be if all goes well. We can have more than one verse of the day.
I don't have time right now supper needs to be on the table but I'll get in later. Who wants to start. Or do you think this is a terrible idea.

Since it is almost the end of the day where we are, Jacks, post one in the morning. I think it's a good idea. Thanks!

Proverbs 15:15(Amp): "All the days of the desponding afflicted are made evil (by anxious thoughts and foreboding), but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast (regardless of circumstances).
I really needed to read that today. Maybe it will give someone else peace.

My verse for the day. I read several versions and i like these two the best.
Romans 8
Living by the Power of God's Spirit Contemporary English Version)
1If you belong to Christ Jesus, you won't be punished. 2The Holy Spirit will give you life that comes from Christ Jesus and will set you [a] free from sin and death.
Romans 8 The Message
The Solution Is Life on God's Terms
1-2With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ's being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.

I love Romans Jacks. Generally I just read the KJV, but I do appreciate a little variety every once in a while.
My favorite verses are John 15:11-14 (KJV)
"These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you."
They hold a powerful message of love. And I'm a kind of person who needs lots of that...

I did a some looking on Bible gateway .com and found these
John 15:11-14 the message
11`I have told you these things so that you may be glad in the same way I am glad. Then you will be very glad always.
12`I am telling you to love each other as I have loved you.
13The strongest love anyone can have is this. He will die to save his friends.
14You are my friends if you do what I tell you to do.
15I do not call you servants anymore, for the servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends because you know everything that my Father has told me
The Message Joshua 9 1
Haven't I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don't be timid; don't get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take."
New life version Joshua 9 1
Have I not told you? Be strong and have strength of heart! Do not be afraid or lose faith. For the Lord your God is with you anywhere you go."

I love to read many different versions. It so helps to get a fuller understanding of scripture. I also study the definitions in Greek and Hebrew. So awesome!
Rachel (I love your verse also) and Mouse, I am so glad this verse touched you both. I knew the Lord had me put it here for a reason. Blessings!

Praise the Lord! Another verse I knew I should put there. And you know, that's the way scripture should be...personal. It is there just for you. We should all read it as if our own name was in it.
There is book you can get with scripture that is personalized. My sister-in-law gave me one. One the red leather cover, the title says this..."If You Love Me Lynn...Obey My Commandment".
This book won an International Angel Award for excellence in media as the most outstanding devotional book of the year, in 1990, I think it was. I think one costs $15. Here's the address if you'd like to get one for yourself or as a gift...

Jack's told me 'bout this thread, so I'll post waht I posted inthe prayer section over at CW:
Psalm 107
1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
10 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:
12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.
15 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
16 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
19 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
21 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
24 These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.
25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.
28 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;
37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
39 Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
40 He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
41 Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.
42 The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New International Version)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 16
1 To man belong the plans of the heart,
but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.
2 All a man's ways seem innocent to him,
but motives are weighed by the LORD.
3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and your plans will succeed.
4 The LORD works out everything for his own ends—
even the wicked for a day of disaster.
9 In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps.

24 A man's steps are directed by the LORD.
How then can anyone understand his own way?
