MOUNTAIN VIEW (http://www2.nysun.com/related_results.php?term=Mountain+View), Calif. (http://www2.nysun.com/related_results.php?term=California) — Many parts of America (http://www2.nysun.com/related_results.php?term=United+States), long considered the breadbasket of the world, are now confronting a once unthinkable phenomenon: food rationing. Major retailers in New York, in areas of New England (http://www2.nysun.com/related_results.php?term=New+England+States), and on the West Coast are limiting purchases of flour, rice, and cooking oil as demand outstrips supply. There are also anecdotal reports that some consumers are hoarding grain stocks.

At first I wondered if this article was legit but I did a search and found it in several other places. You may remember a thread I started a while back about stockpiling... well this makes me think of it again. Most responses in that thread were "pantry" minded but I meant STOCKPILING. I know of a lot of Christians who are doing this big time... I'm talking barrels of rice and beans, all kinds of non-perishables, water, batteries, even ammunition! I'm not trying to be an alarmist but what do you think... should we be stocking up for a long stretch of possible inflated prices and/or food shortages?

We live in interesting times. Reminds me of Revelation seal judgements, and Matthew 24.

Well, my husband and I have stockpiled before, but our feelings on it have changed. My grandparents live in the middle of nowhere, have woodfueled heat, a full kitchen that runs without electricity, and piles and piles of food. They also rarely have any human contact - especially with their own family.

Hubby and I have come to decision that we should genuinely rely on the promise of God to supply all our needs according to his riches and glory - to thank him for our daily bread - and to find, perhaps, some food banks that may be struggling and assist them with their stockpile rather than hoarding grain to ourselves. We might buy an extra bag of flour or two and plant a few extra things in our garden - but I just feel like God's asking us to trust Him and to give where there's a greater need than our own.

A rush on anything usually exacerbates a problem rather than fixes it - and the first people to suffer are those who already have less food than me to begin with.

I'm sure this is probably true! I like what you said prior to this as well. I find it interesting that you came to the conclusion you did. In situtations similar I always go back and forth... "Maybe Abba wants us to see the situation and use our noggins too! No - He wants me to just trust Him".. back and forth..! I'm sure by the sounds of it you have discussed this as well. But you felt that you were led not to be concerned. I like that... He does say not to be concerned about what we should eat or wear, etc.

Cymrugirl -- I totally agree with you. When we begin stock piling or hoarding then I believe we are really saying we don't trust God with His provisions for us. While the news everywhere continues to be troubling and we are all tempted to focus on that, I strongly sense that God wants us to focus on him, not circumstances.

You put it very well.
