If you have not seen this movie don't read this unless you don't mind the ending being spoiled for you. I waited and waited for this movie. i don't go to movie theaters so I finally got to rent it last night on Direct TV.

I first of all hated the way it ended, wasn't anything like i thought it would be. I also didn't like the fact that they killed Sam the dog. I never read the book or seen any of the other movies. Matter of fact didn't know any other movie was out there until i was reading some facts after watching the movie.

I loved the dog so much I googled several sites and found out that they used 3 dogs and the main star was Abbey. Abbey was rescued from a pound by a trainer. Will Smith tried to buy the dog he fell in love with her so much. But the trainer wouldn't sell.

Any way back to my point. Did you like the movie. Was it worth going to see. Would you watch it again. if you haven't seen this movie then make a comment on other movies that bumbled you out or where they killed a person or pet in a movie that ticked you off.

I bought this as an all day ticked but I won't watch the whole movie again.
I liked the first half, liked the effects, but thought the movie would have been better if he'd learned to talk to the mutated people and then helped them get well. Yea i know I'm a softy. They should have never KILLED SAM. LOL LOL

Sorry to go on.

Ha! We do the same thing... wait until a movie comes on Direct TV and then rent. We rarely go to the theatre. There were some good things about the movie. I thought it had some wonderful references to God and being led by the spirit... the world view surprised me. The acting was good. I very much hated it when Sam died too. All in all It didn't really scare me like I was expecting it to. The fright scenes were almost "haunted house-ish" to me which even though you already knew it wasn't real made it seem even more unbelievable. I wouldn't watch it again... When it was over I felt disappointed.
My aunt who is not a big Will Smith fan thought it was his best role ever! Go figure...

From what my husband said, the movie didn't follow the book very well. He said there were some significant differences. But he liked it and was even wanting to see it again.

Me on the other hand.... no. It just wasn't my type of movie and it was horrible when Sam died. Didn't like that one bit. Poor, poor Sam. He did not deserve that fate. Or was Sam a she? I can't remember.

I much preferred the alternate ending on the DVD. The ending in the film was hokey. It felt tacked on. There was so much to like about the film, otherwise.

wow there is another ending Phy tell me what was it may be I'll rent it and watch it.

Sam was a girl.

I also liked the religious meaning in the movie and was surprised by the way they talked about God. it kept making me think things, like they were going to be the new Adam and Eve then boom he kills himself.

I just wasn't happy about it.

This movie scared the pants off me!! But I thought it was really well done and a good movie (only if you don't mind being scared). My nephew read the book and said that the night walkers were quite different. In the book they have a whole society and breed and are intelligent. They can't understand why a man keeps running around killing them. Once they are 'dead' they become wild and vicious but while they are infected they are rational and intelligent. i guess it's sort of a reverse boogey man. The healthy human is the boogey man to the sick. Very interesting.

I thought the Christian messages got lost amid the depressing ambiance of the movie. Shouldn't there be some outward evidence that "God still loves us"? If that is true, then how could God allow the dead to "rise" in zombified form, of all things? For all of the protag's sacrifice and pain, shouldn't the movie have ended with the zombies being "saved"? The whole "savior" business tends to be weak, especially if resurrection of some sort was not part of it.

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 says, "For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten. Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun."

Not only do dead bodies know nothing, but they're not likely to be walking around and attacking anyone. If their love, hate, and jealousy are gone, so would their viciousness. That is a huge reason why I don't like zombie movies of any type.

You may agree or disagree, but I wanted to express my feelings on the matter.

Looking I didn't know they were supposed to be dead. I thought it was something that happened to them because of man. I'm still not sure they were dead but only mutated because of man trying to fix Cancer.

i agree i don't like movies about that either. i also wanted him to save the people from themselves. I wanted him to find the cure from the dog and save all of them.

Overall, I liked the movie, although I agree that the ending was hokey. I didn't like it when he had to kill Sam, either, but it was important for the plot. I am thinking about renting the DVD, so I can see the alternate ending.

Ya i mised it in the thearters but baught the dvd.

I saw the death of the dog comming din't say i liked it but i did see it comming. Although how sam went out is concistant with the breeds reputation. Defending the life of his master and closest companion. both wolf and dog packs work this way.

First things first the dark seekers are not zombies for the number one reason that the infected are changed apon infection.

In zombies the infection first kills (or the person is killed by other means and the head and most of the rest of the bodie is left intact) and then the dead body is then reanimated.

Although I will admit the moive itself did have the feel and ambance of say 28 days latter or even the orginal night of the liveing dead.

As for the ending/s the second one did seem a littel better to me, but will chacters moativation for the orginal ending did in a way make much more sence, from a scycological point of veiw, not to mention carying on the truth tridation of such moives where you're lead chacter dosent ever realy sruvive.

Spoilers ensue:
http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/03/05/must-watch-i-am-legends-original-ending-this-is-amazing/

For those unaware, let me explain the concept of Richard Matheson's book to help clarify why this original ending was so amazing to finally see. Without spoiling too much (incase you want to read it), the entire purpose of the title I Am Legend is that in the book, Robert Neville actually is the last man on the planet. And he has switched places from our reality of what we perceive as legend, to actually being the legend. As in, vampires are "legendary" to us because they're a myth from fantasy. In the book, Robert Neville is "legendary" because he is that myth and goes out day after day hunting them. With the original theatrical ending, they never actually touched on that idea at all - but when you think about, that's a pretty damn cool concept.

While an ending that direct wouldn't have worked at all in this interpretation of I Am Legend, the way this original ending plays out actually caters much more to that concept than the one we saw in theaters. I love the dynamic between Neville and the lead vampire, especially when he finally brushes up against next to him and comes in contact with him. He never got that close to any of them in movie and seeing that gave me a chill. It's rare that I'm this moved by something like an alternate ending, but this was truly breathtaking!

I watched the alt ending and it was great. i don't know why in the world they chose the ending that they did. the only thing that would have made it better is if the had Sam in the car with them.

if you watched the movie you have to go to that link Phy gave us and watch the alt ending it is well worth it.

Now thats my kind of ending to a story.

I saw this movie about a week and a half ago, and I have mixed feelings about it. I knew that Sam was going to die and by the way she's a girl cause I heard Robert call her Samantha once, and I knew Robert was going to die, too. (I knew b/c my Creative Writing teacher used it as an example to explain about making people care about your characters.) So I was kind of expecting it.

It wasn't too scary. The part about God seemed superficial and hokey. There definitely wasn't anything theologically correct or deep. As LU says, there wasn't a message about God loving us.

Also, Robert sort of had to die to fit the ending. I love the part when she said at the end (I forgot her name) "We are his legend" or something like that. But they could have made his death a bit more realistic, since he could have easily set the grenade or whatever and had enough time to climb in with them.

Talking to the mannequins was very strange, yet at the same time it actually seems realistic. I might start talking to mannequins if I was the only rational human being left on the planet!

777 you should watch the on line alt ending there is a link on Phy's thread i think. You might not know what they are saying but I like that ending much better.

just a note it took like 3 dogs to do the role of Sam. I did a lot of reading. One dog only did the fetch scene. Will wanted to buy Sam but the owner wouldn't sell.

I like happy endings so i like the alt ending best.
