Hello everyone, I joined the group a long time ago.. but like my writing.. not much time for it. I homeschool 3 children and have one preschooler. Lots of free time... LOL! Question? I have written in two different genres. I have attempted to querie my children's book twice with one rejection and one that is keeping me on a back burner. I have written several children's books but have not attempted to publish the others. I have also just completed the first draft of a Christian fiction piece.. not even close to submission standards. Have any of you written in two genres.. or should I stick to one and try to perfect it....? I would love some of your thoughts. Patty

I forgot to add that I have been published in medical journals and a natural parenting magazine. But, I don't want to write freelance.. that I know.

If you love it, write it.

It's true that most authors specialize in one genre (or, at most, two), but this is due more to time constraints (if you have a book deal for one suspense novel a year, you probably won't have time to fool around with your speculative piece) and fan base (the fan base you've established with your suspense novel won't necessarily carry over to your speculative novel). However, writing is all about experimentation and growth. Personally, I love to dabble in as many new and different genres as possible. Don't harness yourself to a genre; just write the stories you're given.

Hello I joined this site a while ago but haven't had the chance to really explore the site. I've been writing for a long time now and most of what I write reflects what in my heart. In my opinion there is no other place to write from. With the stress of everyday life expressing from the heart is the best way. Simply because God resides within us. Speaking from that angle says you are humble and just want to say how you feel. I plan to cruise through the site and meet some people. I look forward to communicating with others. Blessings

Thanks. That is what I was thinking. I am drawn to write children's books for my kids and I have lots of fiction ideas in my brain.. guess I could divide my work time and submit both. Thanks for the support. Patty

Kenya24, You have attached yourself to another's thread. Go to Meet and Greet and start your own thread so we can all welcome you properly. Otherwise, no one will see this post. I would move it for you but not all my powers are enabled as a mod.

Patty, What Tarin said is so true. Sometimes, we can stretch the gift the Lord has given us by experimenting with another genre. As Tarin, write the stories you're given...go where you're led! Be blessed in all your writing!

If you love it, write it.

That's what I always say too. Can't go wrong there.
