I've read several comments about Tate Publishing. I have two books published by Tate. I have found they will do what they say they will. I am now near the 6,000 mark in book sales. Yes, most people would like a traditional publisher to choose their work, but face it, each house only publishes a limited number a year and few are from new authors. The Tate family have been kind and gracious toward me. I am pleased with the end products. God is using my humorous books - Humorous Happenings in Holy Places and And the Angels Laughed.

I'll second the congrats, and also add that I'm glad you are going with what you've found to be good for your project.
Sometimes, authors don't spend enough time researching what will really work best for them and that's why there is so much disappointment. If the cost, level of service, product etc. works for your goals, then you move forward.
From there, always remember the path you want to be on, evaluate if whatever services you use are helping you get there, and I believe you'll continue to find success.

Thanks Cheryl. I've found Prov. 16:3 to hold true - commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

Your sales are great for a self published book. Congrats!
I would like to say, however, that a quality book by a new author has very good chances of getting published by a traditional house. :)

Thanks for the congrats. One point - Tate Publishing is not considered a self-publishing house, rather a subsidy publisher, and there is a difference. I'm thrilled you found a traditional house for your book.
Do you have an agent? I have a novel I'm presently shopping around; I'm confident it's a quality book, but to date, I haven't found the publisher for it.

Nice book sales. Are you getting a good percentage out of it?

Let me offer my congratulations as well. 6,000 books sold for a first-time author is actually quite good. I am curious, however. Through what vehicle were those books sold? Was it through the internet, books stores, your own sales? I'm sure we'd all like to know what strategy you and Tate employed to garner your success.

Congratulations.
My first choice was Tate. However, God didn't provide the funding I needed before I accepted another offer. My initial dealings with Tate were very pleasant. Again, congratulations.

Nice book sales. Are you getting a good percentage out of it?
Yes, I do well with it. For the books I sell at my speaking events, I get 60% profit, but I usually discount them a bit for events. I get a nice percentage of what is sold directly through Tate's web site and still less on those sold through distribution, but I am happy with the arrangement.

Yes, yes, yes - I've sold books through all of these venues. My greatest number of book sales come through my speaking events. The first book -Humorous Happenings in Holy Places opened up a career for me as a Christian humorist. I spoke at over 70 events last year. Then when And the Angels Laughed came out, that increased the interest at my book table.Tate also has a marketing dept. which sets up book signings for me, and they sell through distribution. I self published with Outskirts Press, I am struggling to market the book, the main problem is a lack of finances. What is usual for a first time book? I heard around two to three thousand, if so you have done well. I am a bit of a loss at self promoting myself, I am a retiring type, not a good advert for my books. I appreciate what Mike wrote, can you advise what agency is best to approach? Or what tactic works best? in promoting your books. I wrote a book on the life of Christ.

I have sold many of my books through my speaking engagements. Ironically, the humorous devotional books opened up this speaking career for me. As I have told others, "Commit what you do to the Lord, and your plans will succeed." Only he knows what avenues you can market your book. I also put some out on consignment at various bookstores and gift stores. Some have sold through distribution and internet. I really don't know what is considered an average number to sell. May God bless you and your work.
