In searching for smileys that are easy to use, I ran across one site I thought might be good. In order to see what they offered, I clicked on Run. As it went through its paces, it asked for my name and address. I thought this strange as I was not downloading it, merely running.
I also make sure it says no spyware, but then again, that's whay they say.
I tried to exit, which proved to be an exercise in futility. It is now embedded in my computer and installed itself as my homepage. As yet, I cannot get it out. Still working on it. Because of my recent thread on smileys/emoticons, I thought it necessary to post this.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS SITE...Desktop Smiley!

This is Trilby's husband, on a good day when she needs help!
In the middle of sipping a much need mouthfull of hot coffee, Trilby asked me to look into your problem.
Take your little desk top thingy, the curser, and go to Start then Settings and then finally Control Panel, Hit the Add/Remove Programs and go down to DesktopSmiley Toolbar and click Remove. The DesktopSmiley Toolbar uninstaller will do the un-installing. Do not simply delete anything with out the proer installation method...you will do lots of damage.
After that do a disk clean, defrage, etc...
If that does not work then do the following....
Assuming this is XP or Vista, you may want to set a restore point before doing the next step.
Find the Program File Folder, open up and see if they also downloaded a un-install program. If so then double click on that.
Good luck...there is no free lunch and with the internet, there is alway a price to pay. Learned my leason years ago. Now back to my much needed coffee...son had a freind over and there wispering in the dark kept me up to 12:30 am.

Trilby's hubby...you're a dear! I had already done all you suggested but the dopey thing kept appearing as my homepage. Totally forgot about being able to change it, which I did. Then I read your second post. I truly appreciate you taking the time to offer some help. I was just getting ready to have my live-in computer "expert," my hubby, help me out when I did it myself. Tell Trilby she has a great live-in expert also and tell her thanks for the use of her hubby. Have a blessed day!
