My thesis is due Tuesday, and I have much revising to do, but I have no motivation. I've sat the story down for two weeks and I still don't want to look at it. Do any of you know any cool revision tips? Or ways to cheer your writing self up? I'm so desperate.
I know the answer is: Just do it!
And that's the goal.

As Jacks said - tell us what your thesis is. Develop that love again for it.

I too hate the editing process. To modivate myself, I usually give myself a reward after editing anything. Ice Cream works for me!
Good luck! :0)

Passion Pen:
When I really don't want to do something I set a time for 15 minutes and work on it and then stop. Often I'm ready to go 15 minutes more. Try something like that with a reward of 15 minutes of fun. This is a FlyLady method of doing household work and it can really work great for some of us.
Good Luck! You can do it because His Word says you can do all things through Him who gives you strength.

Hmm. Reward. Fifteen minutes. Both are good ideas.
Just do it! Nike...wonderful advisor and impossible to argue with.
My thesis is the beginning of a novel, Torch. I've posted it. I wish I did not choose this story to work on but it's too late. So here I am.
Now about the self-control to not reward myself before writing...lol.
Also, any scriptures that help motivate you?

PP, I can't think of a scripture off the top of my head that might help. Sorry! I know that when I put something off, it looms larger and nastier the longer I wait! As Tarin said, sounds like you know the answer. Just get to it! Blessings!

May be you can just sit down with some soft music in the back ground and start re reading your novel. that helps me.

Sit down at your writing, and pray. Pray against the enemy for trying to stop you reaching your goal. Then ask the Lord for His guidance and to help you focus on what is needed. Ask Him to renew your excitement for the piece. Thank Him for His help and then step forth and do it.

Posting it here may have been a problem. While feedback from other writers can be helpful sometimes, when you get feedback from so many people in such differing directions, it can be confusing. And if any of the feedback is negative, it can be disheartening.
Think back to how you felt when you made the decision to write this story -- think about what you wanted to say in it. Recapture the intensity of feeling about the story that you had when you started, and that can get you moving on it again.
And, for the time being, forget what others have said about it -- just write it from your own heart. If you want to incorporate suggestions later, you can do it.

The scripture that always sticks in my mind when there is something I don't want to do or don't like to do is Colossians 3:23: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men. I try to imagine the Lord standing behind me looking over my shoulder to see what I'm doing and how I'm going about it.

PP,
one verse that helps me is in 2 Timothy 1:7 I think. It says "For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." the reason I claim this one is because in the greek, the words "sound mind" actually mean 'self-control' and isn't that what we all need? I know, PP, that I do. So I pray this helps you... as it has helped me.

PassionPen,
What helps me when I need to edit something, and we all know that editing is not the fun part of writing, is to find a nice place to read and revise. I usually go to a local park, take a picnic lunch, and sit under a nice shade tree. Relaxing my body helps me relax my mind, and then I seem to become more focused on whatever task is at hand.
Regarding a Scripture, I love Philippians 1:5-6 to keep me motivated when I am doing something that I feel God has given me to do: "because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
I wish you the best.

You may want to free write about what is bothering you. Kind of like a dialogue with yourself. State any fears or trouble you may have. Ask yourself what motivated you to write what you did in the first place. Do any honest evaluation on paper to get the writing flowing. Maybe a warm up is all you need. And prayer. Ask the Lord what is stopping you, and for fresh inspiration.
