I have a question. If anyone can help me I would sure appreciate it.
I have a wonderful, and very talented editor who helped me work through my first book. She did the editing out of pure compassion for a struggling writer. She never asked for any money, though I gave her a percentage of the royalties as a gift. I have been working on a new book, and am about ready to submit some of my work to her for editing. At this point I want to pay her as she works, but have no idea what an editor gets paid. I have heard some say the editor is paid by the word and others by the page. Does anybody know how that works, and how much do I pay her? Thank you... Jeremy

Well, editors can be paid by the hour, which could cost between $20, 80, or $100 or more per hour depending on what might be involved. Or you could pay by a few dollars page or a few cents per word. Whichever way you go, you need to work out how much you are willing to pay. Do a few google searches to see how much editors are charging out there.

It varies a lot depending upon experience. I would do a Google search for "editing services" to check out fees and related experience, then pay your editor accordingly.
