View Full Version : Another website question

I set up my website and posted my first chapter in response to a publisher I would like to query when I am finished polishing my manuscript. (The publisher requires this of all prospectives.)
Somone recently told me that it might cause a problem with other publishers as I have "published" my first chapter.
Anyone know about this? Any thoughts?

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but I suppose you could make a LOG IN for publishers to see your work and query.

As far as I can find out, this is one of those sticky wickets. It depends on who you talk to. The final outcome on this has not been decided and, quite possibly, never will. Some say yes and some say no. It is a hard decision to make, especially if one is telling you to do this.

Can you make it a web w/ no external links available to the public, just send the publisher the link directly?

Doesn't mean the "public" couldn't stumble upon the page through a search engine.

I shouldn't think this would be a problem at all. For one thing, it's just a first chapter. For another, it's unlikely anyone will read it, unless you are promoting your website. And even if they did, many novelists and nonfiction writers have published sections of their not yet published books as short stories and the like.
The only problem you MIGHT have, in my opinion, is if you were posting a large section of your book.

Gotcha. Thank you all!
I posted 19 out of 20 chapters on my Blog when a publisher accepted my stuff and asked me to remove it. So it probably depends on the publisher.
