Though I will most likely never go the self publishing route, (I'm not really a writer who could write many books at all...short articles and stories are about all I can manage...and struggle with them!) I want to encourage those of you toy with this as an alternative from time to time. Not long ago there was a thread on topic already started. I'm sorry to start another one but I have no idea at this point where to find that original thread.

However, I would like to share something my husband told me about this weekend. He read that the book, The Shack, was turned down by 4 different publishers. The author finally self published it and "then" a publisher finally noticed it and picked it up.

This is the second time I've head of this happening. So...if you are not getting anywhere going the main line book publisher route, this is at least a direction to consider.

That's my plug for the evening! :)

From all I hear, it is an excellent book too. I don't think the sales are anywhere near finished for The Shack!

Gerrie, I moved your thread here where it seemed the best fit. :)

In response to Grimsleygl,
I would like to know about the process of the book being picked up by a publisher after the self-publishing experience.

Greetings writehumor! I wish I knew the answer to your question, but I'm afraid I do not. At some point, I can try to find the name and email address of one of the blessed individuals though. He is a Rabbi and works across the street from where I work. I'll just have to do a little research to find out how to contact him and I will give you his email address. He put together and offered a Path and Pen writer's workshop that I attended last year. I'm sure he'll be very happy to give you his story and and advise he might have for you as well on this subject.

Of course the other person is the author of The Shack, and his name is William P. Young. There is a nice web site that you might be able to find information on about the early beginnings of his efforts at being published. The site is http://www.theshackbook.com/

Please share with us anything that you find out that might be helpful if you don't mind.

May God bless you mightily and direct your paths as you seek direction.
