Hi all,

I was wondering, since Remembering Jane came out, how many of you have read her books. If you have read any, or want to, then post.
I've read all of hers that I know of except for Lady Susan. That one was just a bit too much. Most of her heroine's, no matter how silly or annoying they may be, are endearing... But Lady Susan is NOT.
Anyway, what do any and all of you think?

Blessings!

I have read (and mostly enjoyed) her major works: Persuasion, Emma, P&P, S&S, Northanger Abbey.

I enjoyed Pride & Prejudice, Emma, Mansfield Park, Sense & Sensibility, Persuasion, and Northanger Abbey - in that order. Haven't read any of her uncompleted works; I've never been able to enjoy another author's attempt to finish a half-written classic (e.g. Charlotte Bronte's Emma and Charles Dickens's The Mystery of Edwin Drood).

I'm a Jane Austen fan. My favorite of her novels is Persuasion, though they're all wonderful in their own right. I loved her books so much, I read her long reading list in Northanger Abbey, as well as multiple authors she herself referenced as personal favorites. Reading the novels she enjoyed gave me even greater appreciation of the edgy quality of her own novels in their time.

Yeah, I know what you mean Cymru, done that a bit myself. My favorite Austen is P&P. Then either Persuasion or Northanger Abbey, I like both. I've heard the heroine of NB critised quite harshly by people cause she's really silly. But so is Marianne in S&S! Anyway, I like Emma regardless of her terrible ways. She's a fascinating and hilarious heroine!

Funny that people would criticize her - the book is a parody of another famous gothic classic. That's like people criticizing Will Ferrell for being silly in his Ricky Bobby movie.

People don't understand her Mansfield Park protagonist either. Ah well.

I enjoy Fanny Price, for all that she come's across as a just the tiniest bit "perfect" you know?

I love P&P. It's been awhile since I've read her books. I think I might pick some up again. They are always good for a reread. I find I get swept along with the story, even though i know them so well. It takes a me a bit to get back into the language but once I do i get hooked on that genre for quite some time. Anyone else get addicted to the language?
Any of you like George Elliot? I love Mill on the Floss. (sorry I know this is an Austen thread buts someone else mentioned Bronte and Dickens).

Oh yeah. Life gets dangerous whenever I'm reading period literature. :p

I read an abbreviated version of Silas Marner in HS, but I definitely intend to read the rest of Eliot's works sometime in the near future.

I love Eliot more than Austen, actually. I think she's cleverer (?), wittier and a better read. Just my opinion, though!

I tried Eliot, but couldn't get in to it. I love Austen, but maybe I'll be brave enough someday to try Eliot again, who knows?
