Charlton Heston - Dead at 84

LOS ANGELES - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.

The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said.

Powers declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.

You beat me to the post! It was sad to see this as one as my morning headlines :(. It didn't say what he died of but at least he was able to be at home in his own bed...

Oh! :( This makes me sad...

Though I mostly knew Mr. Heston as head of the NRA for years, I've seen a handful of his movies.

Oh...I'm heart-sad. I love his movies so much. I've watched so many of them, and read his autobiography too. That is SO sad. I'm just real sad about this..that is heart-breaking.

Let us know when you find out what he died of, ok?

Such sad news. He was one of my favorite and a great leader of the NRA and no one did Moses like Mr Heston.

I too was deeply saddened by Mr. Heston's death. He was such a leader. Thoroughly appreciated his superb acting.
