Here's an interesting article from Writer's Weekly: http://writersweekly.com/the_latest_from_angelahoycom/004610_04022008.html

If you're not familiar with this ezine, know that it's respected, and it's editor is widely considered a great writer's advocate.

I was unaware that Amazon.com was insisting all POD publishers allow Amazon to publish their books...nor was I aware that Amazon is now hitting up traditional small publishers, saying their books will no longer be featured on Amazon unless they allow Amazon to publish their books! Pretty shocking.

I really doubt Amazon will go through with this.

They have all ready begun the process.

I can't believe it. How sad! So much for integrity from businesses.

I knew Amazon was huge, but not overbearing. Very bad for authors.

So sad. Just about the time the industry sorts itself out, someone upsets the world.

I believe in the resiliency of our collegues. And since nature abhors a vacume, and there appears to be a derth of grace in Amazon and appreciation for those that make it's life viable, even prosperous, this, too, will right itself.

I recently, maybe one week ago, got an email from my publisher telling their authors about Amazon's heavyhanded move of trying to force my publisher to allow Amazon the rights to publish their books at a reduced costs and to pass on the expenses to the author. Hope am clear here (?!). Anyway I think that is unethical but big biz always make this kind of move. My publisher refused and moved most of their business to Barnes and Nobles. Can authors write Amazon? Does this have any effect?

The thing that has the biggest effect is dollars - plain and simple.

If we publicise this more, get the word out, and use BarnesandNoble.com, it'll send the message.

Writing to them is nice, but big corporations and politicians can only speak two languages – violence and greed. Since I hope we'd abstain from a campaign of assassinations, taking your business elsewhere is the surest way to show them that these heavy-handed tactics are not welcome and will not be tolerated.

Exactly. amazon.com was once my favorite place -- I bought 99% of my books there. Not any longer. From now on, it's BarnesandNoble.com for me.

I think I'm going to have to go that route as well. I remember liking Amazon because they seemed so maverick - now they're falling victim to the same greed they used to juxtapose. ::sigh::

Seems a common theme in human history... /sigh

I agree and will jump in too. I often go to the Seminary but began using Amazon but with this news, I will switch to Barns and Nobles too.
