Say, how are you? My name is Glynn Tafuro, I live with my wife in Denton, TX and work in an evil corporate environment, where I am tasked with further spreading our worldwide domination with the dark tools of finance.

In my spare time (hopefully this morning) I try to deliver on a promise to God. That promise involves writing at least 500 words daily. Why I made the promise, I'll never know, but like some mindless thrall I seem to only know joy when I accomplish that daily promise, and only know guilt when I don't. I write mostly science fiction (not sci-fi, there is a difference), and attempt to publish in the secular market with no success. Normally, I would blame this on poor writing, but seeing what does get published is heartening, I chalk my failure up to bias against anything even subtlety religious in the science fiction world.

We are expecting our first child in September, we have animals (two cats that produce their own gravity, and a dog named Jackson).

Been off site for a few days so this is just a 'blanket hello' to new folks.
Enjoy the site.
Ah a baby on its way - you'll discover the realms of science fiction first hand !!!!!

Glynn, I am a fellow newbie. Welcome and greetings, though somehow I feel we have met before. Perhaps we live on the same planet. Or maybe it's the whole evil-corporation-spurred-writing-while-parenting thing.

You've piqued my interest as you mentioned a difference between science fiction and sci-fi. In my finite knowledge, I thought it was only by abbreviation. So, what is the difference, my earthling friend?

"Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." Hebrews 11:3 (That's no science fiction!)

Hi Glynn, I just made my intro post this a.m, wasn't feeling too funny at the time, so enjoyed your words more!

I hope you make use of countless sleepless nights with your new baby; think how much creative thinking you can do whilst wearing a rut in the carpet, trying to get the restless one off to sleep! Brain storm whilst changing a nappy; that could be used as a secret weapon your science fiction characters use to control the universe!

I was nudged by your commitment to writing 500 words per day, not very disciplined myself, so need some good habit forming ideas.

Having five children, I know the joys and trials of fatherhood, but I know too that my Wife bore the brunt of the hard work of taking care of new-borns. Especially after several months of being stretched by internal growth! So give her lots of massages, she will be very thankful!

Hello from another newbie who came aboard this ship. You will find diverse intelligent life here, or so I'm told.

I would love to hear your perspectives on science fiction, and how you meld your Christian beliefs into the storyline. To be honest, the only science fiction I've read of that kind is C.S. Lewis' trilogy...the first is "Out of the Silent Planet", I think? It was amazing!

I am interested in doing the same with fantasy, but there seems little in the Christian or secular market these days for subtly wriiten Christian fantasy or science fiction. Usually, it's quite the opposite.

Welcome!
