I hope this is okay to mention this here. I i need to edit any of this let me know.

This is a current event so I think it can go here. I'm sure this strike will not go far and may not even get a mention on the news. My dad did hear it on the news and a fella in Columbus Ohio said he heard it mentioned.

Well any way. Dan Little is the one starting this and keeping it going best he can. Hubby will be shutting down for 24 hours on April 1st. I've also heard some are asking cars to not buy gas on this day too. I know they said at one count they had 2000 trucks promised to shut down I know thats a drop in the bucket.

But we have to do something the money that they are adding for a fuel surcharge is not enough to cover the exp we are inccuring. We run about 95,000 miles a year if fuel goes up 5 cents our fuel cost goes up 4750. Over the last year it's raised a lot more. Yesterday it went up 11 cents in one day. Below are some links to a news article, and a MSN interview with Dan and Dan's website.

What do you think about this. Know any truckers joining in on the strike?

Hubby just called said he spent 200 dollars and got 52 gallon that will take him 312 miles if he gets 6 mpg. It's so depressing at times.

Truckers deserve a raise more than anyone right now. If the economy keeps going like it is, truckers won't be able to work – and thanks to our horribly underdeveloped railroad system, and sprawl of our cities and towns, that could mean literal periods of starvation and decay in the United States.

I hope this will make an impact and help bring awareness to the plight of independent (and non-independent!) transit workers in this country.

Anything planned for April 1st is automatically suspect. There are 364 perfectly good alternate days if you're remotely serious about being taken seriously.

Of course, I could make the same argument about voting - we have major regional elections on the first, as well. (Write your own joke here: ________________________)

The guy said he wanted to have it on April first cause truckers were Idiot (don't like to use the word fool) for putting up with this nonsense for so long.

thanks for the kind comments Ransom, I appreciate them.

I've heard of it and thoroughly support it, although I don't know if it'll do much good unless some of the fleets do it as well (Crete, Old Dominion, etc.)

Where I live, depending on which side of the state line you're on (differences in gas tax), the cost of diesel is around $3.64, and gas is $3.15ish. To me, it seems like highway robbery. I still pay it--don't have a choice--but I wish my Dodge Dakota would get better gas mileage (it's between 12 & 14--not that much better than your hubby's truck, Jacks!)

And, I can't believe there's an idiot congressman from Michigan (I think) that wants to raise fed gas taxes $.50 a gallon! What an imbecile!

I know righter some people are just dumb. I hear that those bigger companies are getting Gov. Subsidies so they are not hurting like we are. thanks for the support and I hope that it helps in some way.

If a story doesn't pop up in my RSS feeds (I use the free Bloglines), I don't know about it.

I rise at 5:30 in the morning, check my e-mail, shower, and am on the road by 6. It takes me an hour and half to get to work. I'm there for 9 hours, takes another hour and a half to get home, and then making dinner and doing clothes and dishes before settling in in front of the computer.

I don't watch any tv news at all, ever. I get a little news from the radio, but it's catch-as-catch-can.

A gas station near me (and probably others too) lists Diesel at 68c more a gallon than Premium Plus. Shocking! Good luck getting that to come down. The world needs truckers to survive!
