A friend sent me this link this morning, from Neil Gaiman's blog.

It is an abandoned house (from the medieval period) in Russia - the kind which they say can frequently be found deep in the Russian woods - with furniture still undisturbed.

A nice haunt to find some story ideas or bring ones you've already read to life. If you check the link below, there is also a link to an entire village that has been abandoned with something that looks like a church? Complete with the dome style architecture over the doorstop - made entirely of wood.

Exploring old houses is one of my favorite ways to gain admission to a new book idea. Enjoy.

Wow! That home really is incredible and beautiful! I can only imagine how grandiose it was after it had just been completed! That's the kind of thing a wandering fantasy nut dreams of discovering in the woods outside his village...

I wish they were more specific about the dating. The Russian Medieval period (by some accounts) lasted until the early twentieth century!

Still, a marvelous find!

I just looked at the link to the Swallow's Nest on that page too and it's amazing.

Oh wow... *picks jaw up off the floor* Quick - where's my passport? Now we're all gonna end up with spooky Russian houses hiding in some corner of our WIPs. :p

An adaptation of one Russian legend featuring a creepy old house in the middle of the woods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baba_Yaga) left a profound impact on my fledgling imagination.
