View Full Version : Interview the person below you ~ a game
Xenia
03-15-2008, 11:04 AM
I've heard of this little game and thought it might be fun for us. You answer the question in the most recent post and then ask one for the next person...
Here we go. First question:
Do you get your clothes ready for church the night before?
ProfessorAlan
03-15-2008, 11:10 AM
We go to a "casual dress" church, so it's more of a case of making sure we all have clean jeans -- so it is more of a laundry situation for us.
OK. Second question:
How long have you been attending the church you currently attend?
Tamera
03-15-2008, 12:09 PM
I'm a newbie there. I've only attended 5 months. The church before that was 4 1/2 years, and the one before that was 16 years.
So, what kind of church do you attend?
Rebecca
03-15-2008, 12:46 PM
Fun idea! :) I recently moved and am still church-shopping, but for now attend a non-denominational community church.
On the weekends, do you prefer to sleep in or get up early?
Rebecca
Timber Wolf
03-15-2008, 01:34 PM
well, I guess it's me, so...
Sleep in, although sleep in is in the eye of the beholder. When I worked the 5am shift, sleeping in was staying in bed until 5am. (and yes I went to bed early, too).
So, the person below me loves the snow.
Tarin
03-15-2008, 04:26 PM
Only during December. ;) The rest of the winter, I don't live - I just wait for spring. ;) One of these days I'm buying a winter condo in Hawaii. :p
Favorite comfort food?
PattyU
03-15-2008, 08:25 PM
Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches.
Next:
How old were you when you became a Christian?
lynnmosher
03-16-2008, 12:27 AM
I was eleven years old when my Christian parents took me on vacation to NYC to attend Billy Graham's acclaimed crusade there in 1957 at Madison Square Garden. Quite a fete for a tiny little girl to go forward in the midst of thousands of others!
Here'a a tuffy...How faithful are you to have a quiet time every day?
Xenia
03-16-2008, 09:08 AM
That is a tuffy! I have just recently (last mo. or two) started getting up 1/2 hour to 45 minutes earlier to pray and have a short bible study. I do real good during the work week but for some reason I don't do it on the weekend! It's like my flesh thinks I deserve a "break" on Saturday or something. This is my current issue! Thanks a lot Lynn for that perfectly timed question :p.
If you moved to another country which would it be?
lynnmosher
03-16-2008, 10:00 AM
Just curious, Xenia. For clarity's sake, can anyone answer more than one question? Just thinking we may run out of people to answer if we each answer only once.

Lynne, you didn't answer her question, and then you asked another! Now I'm confused! :p
....
Anyway, in answer to the question, there are probably several I would consider moving to (mostly for educational purpose,) but I think you're aiming for more of an "In an ideal situation" sort of thing... In that case it's a toss between Ireland, Sweden or Japan. Granted, if I lived in an ideal situation, I wouldn't have to choose. :D
....
All right, here's a kicker: how do you think culture and faith should intersect?
lynnmosher
03-16-2008, 11:14 AM
Interjection...Xenia had just answered my question and I wanted to clarify the rules. Sorry I confused you, Ransom. I didn't think that was possible! LOL! :D Okay, back on track!
Xenia
03-16-2008, 01:53 PM
Oh sure! I did :). I figure it's kinda like the "what are you listening to right now?" thread. Pipe in whenever and as often as you like..
ProfessorAlan
03-16-2008, 02:26 PM
All right, here's a kicker: how do you think culture and faith should intersect?
In general, I think faith should intersect with culture, interact with culture, converse with culture ... I am not a separatist as far as culture is concerned.
-----------------------
What model of computer are you using right now?
jacks girl
03-16-2008, 03:11 PM
I have a Dell that I'm using right now but I also have a dell lap top and a old compaq that cost me over 3000 dollars back in the 80's I'm still trying to get my money's worth out of it.
Question.
What do you do first thing in the morning when your eyes fly open.. lets skip going to the bathroom LOL
Tarin
03-16-2008, 04:03 PM
You mean beyond slapping the alarm clock and groaning? :p My devotional time comes first in the morning. I spend an hour in bed, praying and reading.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be an artist.
Where was your best vacation ever?
righter1
03-16-2008, 11:00 PM
Where was your best vacation ever?
Hmmm... I've had a lot of good ones since I got married... :)
Best was probably the time hubby and I went to the Pacific Northwest for the first time and I got to the see the ocean on the coast of Washington, as well as from Vancouver, BC.
I also liked the first time I saw the mountains, in Colorado, also with hubby, though he was fiancé at the time.
And, when I went to NJ/NY when I was 17--all by myself--to visit my penpal for her HS graduation. I wish I'd gone into the Twin Towers, but I got to see them from Liberty Island/Ellis Island and took a TON of pictures (though nowhere near the 700 or so I took in Colorado last July.)
Okay, do you cook most of your meals, or do you go out to eat a lot? (If this is a guy, and you're married, does your wife cook your meals--and is she a good cook?)
Xenia
03-17-2008, 07:51 AM
My situation is kind of different. I am a vegan. My husband is not. I basically prepare my meals and he prepares his. It works for us. He rarely goes out to eat. I go out about once every couple of weeks :).
The last dream you had...what was it about?
Ransom v. Unman
03-17-2008, 11:19 AM
The last dream you had...what was it about?
Man, of course I would get this one... I have horrible dreams.
Last night I dreamed that my wife and I were staying in a house where several gruesome has just recently taken place, and that the murderer himself was still haunting it.
Good fare for making a horror story, I suppose, but I'd just as soon wish I'd forgotten about it! >_<
..............
How much (if any) Irish do you have in your ancestry?
righter1
03-17-2008, 12:48 PM
How much (if any) Irish do you have in your ancestry?
My maiden name is Irish. We think we can trace my family ancestry back to the clan that owned Blarney Castle--it's the family castle. :D So, although my Irish ancestors came over in the 1700s (or perhaps earlier), I consider myself more Irish than Cherokee or Swedish (which came into the family line around 4 or 5 generations before me.)
.....................
Are you wearing green on St. Patrick's Day?
Cymrugirl

Yes, indeedy. I am. :D
Which literary/film character do you most readily relate with?
Tarin

Oooh, good one! Judging from the trailer... Jodie Foster's writer character in the upcoming Nim's Island. ;)
Favorite historical personality?
I'm tempted to say St. Patrick – and he's up there, don't get me wrong! – but that wouldn't be entirely accurate. He's just on my mind a lot today...
As it stands, I'll probably say mine is St. Peter. Maybe Rabbi Gemaliel. Hard call between those two...
...
What is your favourite smell, and why?
righter1
03-17-2008, 02:19 PM
What is your favourite smell, and why?
Being pregnant, that's hard right now. I can tell you my least favorite--coffee! It makes me want to shoot whoever has the cup nearby and isn't sensitive to my nose...
Right now, I'd say it's whatever's cooking that smells good that I can eat. Like my chocolate pie in the fridge at home. Or the smell of cereal in the morning. Or pineapple. :D If I can eat it, it's good.
Other than that, I love the smell of a spring day after a thunderstorm. It always smells fresh and clean, and a bit like dirt--so things will grow. :)
.........
What is your favorite season of the year and why?
Gina123
03-17-2008, 02:58 PM
fall is my favorite time of year. Its a nice break from our very hot summers and not windy and stormy like spring. It seems to last a long time, generally mid Sept through early December.
Question:
What's your favorite nursery rhyme??
Cymrugirl

The person below me has a cat on his worktable, getting in his / her way.

And, I think this thread has seriously deteriorated. *sigh* What are we going to do with you, Austin? <-- that is my question. Someone NEEDS to answer this.

well, i think this was the last question. Is flailing still legal?
We need collission detection on this thread - and that's my question to the person below me - what is it?
Tamera
03-17-2008, 08:19 PM
Huh? I'm confused. What's the question? :eek:Major hijacking going on here from a moderator who shall be nameless. :p But his initials are Austin. :D
Timber Wolf

the question was: does the person below me know what data collision detection is?
I was saying we needed some in this thread, cause so many dup answers come in together, and my answer was to the Q: "WHAT should we do about Ransom?" and I said "is flailing still legal?" and so that was my answer.
so the person below me knows what data collision detection is.
Xenia
03-17-2008, 10:03 PM
Detecting when data is about to collide. We wouldn't want to do that... it's funnier the other way. Like when kids bump heads :) (not too hard).

Approximate membership/attendance at your church?
lynnmosher
03-17-2008, 11:40 PM
Approximately 20,000. It may sound like a mega-church and, if you go by numbers, then I guess it is. However, it really isn't. It is a great church with a lot of people that meet in small groups to know each other.

again... do you have a pet?
Timber Wolf
03-18-2008, 01:22 AM
I have a cat named "Tribble" living with me. Although I'm not sure that describing him as "mine" would be accurate, more like I am who he chooses to live w/ at this time.
Of all the questions already asked, and you haven't answered, which would you like to jump back to, and what answer would you give?
Xenia
03-18-2008, 07:35 AM
Post number 9 I asked... If you moved to another country which would it be? I would answer it New Zealand. I haven't researched it too much but that's what I've always thought.
Besides Jesus, who do you most look forward to seeing in Heaven?
lynnmosher
03-18-2008, 10:09 AM
Oooo, oooo, oooo! I get this one! Since my mother just died a couple of months ago, she would be first on my list, after seeing Jesus, of course. Then my father, my grandparents, and then David, Abraham, Ruth, and well, I could go on and on.

Do you like your middle name?
Ransom v. Unman
03-18-2008, 10:49 AM
Do you like your middle name?
Sort of, but not really. It's a fairly pedestrian middle name of the Anglo-Saxon variety (ironic since I have almost no English ancestry to speak of) and it's a family name, so there's no real special meaning attached to it.
However, it's a name that many other noteworthy authors in my genre share – Howard Phillips Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, to name a couple.

What is a subject you cannot discuss calmly, and why?
Tamera
03-18-2008, 10:57 AM
Women in ministry. I was called as a children's pastor (not a Sunday school teacher and yes I am a pastor with both men and women under me.) and resent other sanctimonious, more spiritual than thou people telling me that I am not in the will of God when I obeyed Him by answering His call.
What is your favorite movie?
ProfessorAlan
03-18-2008, 11:13 AM
the word "favorite" scares me, so I'll just say I have always liked "Say Anything" with John Cusack and Ione Skye.

Oh, I wish I'd jumped in earlier to answer Ransom's question! There's a lot of topics I can't discuss calmly--unless I'm so tired my brain won't get riled up.
What is your favorite movie?
My absolute favorite movie of all time is probably in the Star Wars repertoire... Most likely, it's 'The Empire Strikes Back' but I vascillate between it and 'Return of the Jedi'.

How much time do you theoretically 'waste' on the internet every week? (And, define how you're basing your estimation.)

How many pairs of shows do you own?
Four, maybe five if you count the pair of ragged but "wearable" DMs I have at my in-laws... Otherwise I have the Docs, the Grinders, the Adidas, and the Kung-Fu slippers (best $2 I spent in Chinatown!)

Ahh, but I only asked about a subject... It's good that you have a lot to choose from, I suppose...
Maybe not.
I dunno.
:-x
How much time do you theoretically 'waste' on the internet every week? (And, define how you're basing your estimation.)
Oh boy. Well, I'll consider that time on the internet spent doing the following...
checking e-mail
updating my blog
tending to moderator duties
updating social networking site status
...does not count as "wasted".
In light of that though, because it is about the only practical way to keep me from losing what little is left of my tattered and neglected state of sanity while at my job, I'll guess somewhere around twenty hours a week. :o
...
Same question as above. :D
ProfessorAlan

well, men's clothing needs an expiration date so we know when it's gone out of style, but ... I got married so someone would tell me when my clothes are done.

How old are you and how old do you act most of the time?
I'm 25 years old, and vacillate between acting like an ill-mannered though well-learned five year old, and a grumpy and rather jaded fifty year old.
I suppose in a way, I feel "timeless", though I also know this to be little more than sophomoric hubris that I shall eventually trade for that kind of ripe wisdom that age and experience alone can afford one.
/sigh

What age do you wish you were?
Probably 20 for the energy level, but with the knowledge/wisdom I have now--being almost 26. I've never wished to be younger, though. I've always looked forward to getting older--and wiser.

Christmas. I get to eat and get presents and feel like a kid. Truthfully, I grew up in a less than functual home, but my dad loved Christmas and always tried to make up for the rest of the year (buy us off) at Christmas, so I have fond memories of Christmas.

If a magic genie appeared and gave you one wish, what would it be? (No fair saying 5 more wishes.)
A fully self-supporting investment portfolio that's well diversified and throws off monthly cashflow enough that I can live on without money worries and can spend my days writing.
At least that would be my first thought. I'd probably take some time and think about it more in depth than that and ask for something more noble.

...................
What's your dream vacation?
I don't really "take" vacations.
Since some of you may have read my prayer request over at CW about my nieces and nephews, you may understand why I say - doing almost anything with the kids again.
Maybe shooting at the range - three of the nieces love it, two said it was too loud, and the boys weren't old enough last time I saw them, but boy's being boys, they wanted to do what their older sisters had gotten to do.
Because of the two girls saying it was too loud, I was contemplating joining an outdoor range (vs the indoor range I currently belong to) and taking them their during the day (worked weird schedules so I couldda done this), when no one else is around, and having them wear ear plugs, with the ear muffs over that, and having them shoot a lighter load of ammo.
This is what I would do right now, my "dream vacation" as it were, if I could afford, and were able to get back to the kids, plus in the last two odd yrs I had not been shooting until this last Jan., I've only been once because of being unemployed.
Yep, taking the lads and lasses out to the firing range, then washing up and taking them to pizza afterwards, I do believe thqat would be my final answer.
Post number 9 I asked... If you moved to another country which would it be? I would answer it New Zealand. I haven't researched it too much but that's what I've always thought.

II Corinthians 5:13 – "If we are out of our mind, it is for the sake of Christ; if we are in our right mind, it is for you."
...
Why is your favourite Bible verse your favourite? :p
Don't know that I have a favorite.
Two of my favorites, though are:
"Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work."
Exodus 35:35
and
Blessed be the LORD my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust.... Ps 144:1-2a
The first should be obvious - it's my CW sig.
The second, because I believe it is every Christian man's duty to also be a warrior, and not a wimp. To stand up for the weak and the helpless. (Frank Peretti talks about this in his "Wounded Spirit.)
It is my sig line at Warrior Talk.

I'll answer the question. :)
How old were you when you went on your first date, and do you remember who that person was?
I'll actually give two answers because "date" is a very subjective term.
If you define "date" as any get-together with romantic interest, I was 14. The guy was Shane Barclay. He was 17 and it was definitely a chaperoned group event with parental meetings beforehand and everything. We were a couple for less than year before my mom broke it up and grounded me for a year. (I got caught skipping school with him.) It was the best thing of my life --- I accepted Jesus as my Savior during that year-long punishment. :)
If you define "date" as the more traditional asking out for a one-on-one romantic thing, I was 16. The guy was Carry Zeigler.

Sorry, I have to interrupt ... Liberty, you can only lift 50 lbs?? And that's with great effort??? C'mon, woman! LOL! I routinely go up and down stairs while carrying about 70 lbs. As for squat lifting, I think I'm around 140. (Not my weight. I meant what I can lift!)
I keep trying to do weight training, and every time I have, I get pregnant and have to stop due to bleeding problems. *sigh* One of these days, I'm gonna be able bench press my weight, (which, I'm not going to tell you) I swear.

Gosh, Ransom, this is a stumper... I don't really know if I have a least favorite... but although I admire her work, I'd have to say Agatha Christie just because it's so difficult to read for me anymore. I truly, truly admire her as a female mystery writer and all, but her stuff is so old now that it's hard to follow... And Hercule Poirot speaking in French all the time gets me... I know there's got to be clues in there, but for the life of me, I can't decipher it.

Do you think names of children influence their personalities and how they turn out as adults?
I hope so. I spent a LOT of time choosing the names of my kids. :) There's actually a whole baby-naming book based on this premise.
Clarification: The book is more about how people perceive others based on their name. The authors did surveys to see what people thought of when they heard a certain name; what characteristics did they expect that person to have. It's actually a pretty cool resource for naming characters in your novels!

I'm really procrastinating here, so I'll answer my own question to fill the time. Someone else has to answer, though, too!!
Isabel Kathryn -- Together my daughter's name means "purely consecrated to God". She came after several years of praying for a child believing we would never have one. I felt like Hannah with Samuel. I needed to give her back to God immediately.
Zachary Luke -- Means "remember the LORD, the Bringer of Light". Again, I wanted a name pregnant with meaning, something that would encourage Zach to remember the God who gave Him life and to remember his job: to bring that Light to others.
Ransom v. Unman
03-19-2008, 06:32 PM
I'll let Tanya's question stand... Why did you choose the names for your pets/kids that you did?
No kids yet, so I'll go with pets...
We gave Lailah her name because it's the Hebrew word for night. She's black and white, but mostly black, so it seemed to fit.
We gave Ze'ev his name because it means "Wolf", and aside from his grey-and-white coat that seems very lupine, he also howled (I'm not kidding – howled!) on the way home in the subway since we first got him. Since then, he's displayed a wide range of wolflike habits, including curling his tail backwards, play-fighting with his big sister, digging through the trash for fun...
There's actually more.

Do you mean monetarily wise? or given w/ the most love?
I'll answer the second half as I don't belileve in expensive gifts, even when I do have the money.
I think the best gift I've given is my time. I started taking the kids out on skating, shooting, movie watching trips for their birthdays - or for "just because."
I would use my time off at work to schedule a couple of hrs to leave early or get there late so I could go to the volleyball games a couple of the girls played in during the school year - and then when they found out I played in organized teams in college they wanted me to help them w/ their serves, bumps, sets, and spikes, so I got to do that with them.
And thank you Liberty. (It's not like I'm paranoid, or anything.)

How many hours of sleep do you have to have to be fully functional? What's the least amount of sleep you've ever gotten in a 24 hour period? (Asking this in a slightly sleep-deprived state... late night.)
For me, it's not so much "hours of sleep" as it is "what time of day do I get up." If I can get up after ten or eleven, it doesn't matter how much I slept, I'll get along fine. Conversely, if it's before ten or eleven, it doesn't matter how much sleep I got, I'll be groggy and irritable.
Then again, that's why God invented coffee...
I do best with a full nine hours of sleep, but I get it so rarely I wonder at times if the difference is really, actually there, or if it's some sort of a mythological condition that I've concocted to make myself feel better about hating the morning so much.
/sigh
And the longest I've gone without sleep was 56 hours for an experiment in college.

My favorite pair of jeans/jean capri's... They're only about a year old so they're not very ratty yet... But, I've been known to keep jeans for years...
I have a favorite T-shirt that I sleep in that my hubby keeps begging me to throw away (actually, I have 2 of the same shirt.) They're from the 1996 Republican convention and very cleary say 1996 on them... so they're almost 12 years old... I know, I'm pathetic.

Nope, I do not much to my mother, the parade lover's dismay. We went to Disney together last year, and I thought the parade times were a great chance to get on rides.
