Yes. I have 2 cats and a dog, and at least one of them is in our room at night, sometimes all three. Whether they're on the bed is their call--except the puppy, who's still relegated to a crate. But, he doesn't whine if he's in our room, so we keep him in it in our room.

Same question.

No. My sister(and roommate) hates cat's and most dog's, so since my dog died earlier this year we haven't had another animal join us.

Do you play the guitar?

melw

i don't play the guitar, thought my hubby a few years back taught we a few chords (which i no longer remember)

It would be nice to though

I'd love to play the bagpipes, and learn in Scotland.

Since nobody has gotten the answer to my last question - one more hint, it is probably the most viscous liquid. (to summarize: it can break - that is, be broken, and it can cut, when broken).

any guesses?

Is it sulfuric acid? I'm stumped... if it's not it, you need to tell us what it is, TW. :) Please????

Depends. When I was in college I could live on just a couple of two hr cat naps. Even as I got older I could survive on less than 8 hrs if I was excitd about getting up and going and doing something. Now, well now I am sleeping much more than 8 hrs, let's just say.

What Celcius and Farenheit temps are the same?

...
and the answer to my earlier question - glass.
My physics instructor told us that glass is a super-viscous liquid. I looked up some info on the net, and it seems, though, that now they (physicists, etc.) are arguing whether this is in fact an accurate description of the properties of glass - very interesting reading regardless.

Nope - viscous, as in thick, slow flowing, think of molasses, and multiply by a factor of oh, 1000

viscosity
[cP]

honey 2,000–10,000
molasses 5,000–10,000
molten glass 10,000–1,000,000
chocolate syrup 10,000–25,000
molten chocolate* 45,000–130,000 [16]
ketchup* 50,000–100,000
peanut butter ~250,000
shortening* ~250,000

Based on this from Wikipedia, I'm going to revise my guess to molten glass. Please let us know if this correct--I'm completely stumped!!!!

If I could remember the formula for converting Fahrenheit into Celsius, the answer would be one algebra problem away...

Unfortunately, I can't remember that formula, as I now have a converter on my cellphone. Man loses to technology once more. >_<

It's definitely NOT 0° or 32° in either system... I'm guessing it's in the negatives somewhere, as 10° Celsius is something like 40° Fahrenheit...

Anyway!

What's your favorite of the CW emoticon's?
Probably , though I like !thumbsup!, and  very much in the right context...

I didn't know you had meterology training. Cool.
Me, I just wanted to know, so solved it algebraically, like Ransom was talking about.

-----

Here:
thinking out loud - let's see, 0c = 32f, 100c = 212f
100C * 9/5 = 180
180 + 32 = 212F
so
9/5 (C) + 32 = F

and 212F - 32 = 180
180 * 5/9 = 100C
so
(F - 32) * 5/9 = C
-----

Sheesh! Forgot about glass! Thanks for the answer, TW.

Man, so hard to choose! I love Saturn - the gian red storm, the satellite planets, the tremendous size...

But I always also had a soft spot for Venus. I mean, volcanoes, acid rain, constant storms - it just seems like a really intense proving ground to me.

I guess I'll have to pick Saturn because I know more about it, and it makes cooler sounds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38pJhxCzR-I), too.

What's your favorite saltwater fish?

And I vote for pluto, even (especially) since the astronomers downgraded it - I always try to cheer for the underdog.

Ransom v. Unman

what is the melting point of tungsten?
(what is tungsten? lol...)
First, what I don't have to look up on Wikipedia:

Tungsten is a metal in the periodic table of elements represented by the symbol "W". It is noted for its hardness, and is often used in drills and machinery.

Now, what I do have to look up on Wikipedia:
It's atomic number is 74, it has the highest melting point of all non-alloyed metals, it is often used in light-bulb filaments (I should've known that! They call it a "Tungsten flash" effect!) and in other high-temperature applications (like rocket ships!)

And for the answer about the melting point question, I had to go even further than Wikipedia to Tungsten.com ("http://www.tungsten.com), and the melting point of Tungsten is 3410° C.

That's hot!

Satillite is great, except when we lose connection due to heavy snows. That stinks. It's so much better than dial-up that I'm grateful. But some of my siblings aren't.

I've spent a lot of time around Aussies and Kiwi's, so I've picked up a lot of their way of speaking. Very funny!

I actually probably "watch" more movies on my laptop than on my TV at home (may change--we're getting cable today.) But, I take my laptop to work with me to listen to music, and if I get bored, I listen to movies and documentaries.

that's what I mean - away from your primary writing site (home, wherever), in case of disaster, all copies aren't destroyed. I've got mine backed up on a pocket drive, and some of it is backed up on a secure website -need to get the rest uploaded, but I'm having issues right now - need to get that worked out so can upload.

I'm only 26, but I remember when Challenger exploded (I was 3 at the time). -- my mom was at a prayer meeting with some friends. I was there, playing with the other kids.
9/11, of course. -- Getting out of bed. I was in poli-sci class by the time the first tower fell, my teacher released us to go to the student center, and was there with my fellow college-goers when the 2nd tower fell.
RFK's plane crash (I remember curling up with my Star Wars Ep. 1 throw to watch coverage.)--I think I was getting out of bed here, too.
When a guy I went to school with died of heat stroke during football practice when I was about 17--helping my mom fix dinner.
When my great-great Aunt Elsa died -- at work.
Frank Sinatra's death -- just getting up in the morning.
Ronald Reagan's death -- just getting home from shopping with hubby. I turned on the TV and saw, then I had to call my mom and tell her.

I'm sure there are others, but can't think of them off hand.

The day that comes to mind is the day the Great Dale Earnhardt died. I had been watching the race in the truck in Alabama with hubby. I had just went in side to call and tell dad to pray for Dale that the wreck looked bad. got off the phone and some lady in the truck stop said she heard dale had died. I got back to the truck and later on they finally announced it. Two days later I seen it for the first time in Pennsylvania in the news paper. We were picking up something at an Amish farm. They made their own electric there. it was a sad day for race fans.

I also remember 911. We woke up in a truck stop in CT. I went in to get some breakfast at Burger king and they were talking about it. By the time i came back to the truck hubby was listening to Howard Stern talk about it. Later on that day we drove through NY but we wasn't close to the city.

Well, since Jack's didn't ask a question:

I remember wehn President Reagan was shot. Was at home in OR getting ready to go register for the next term, friend of my mom's calls up - "Turn on the TV, Regan's been shot!"

The Challenger explosion - at the gym early in the morning getting chngd in the locker room, could hear the TV out in the hall, only half listening and then caught the update of what had happened, finished dressing dashed out to see what was going on.

9/11 - was teaching and up late so slept in, was finishing getting dressed while radio played - only half awake, kinda in a dream like state, wsan't paying much attn, the news announcer repeats the story about how both towers had collapsed by then, called my bro on phone - he tells me planes had flown into towers/pentagon, and the PA flight had gone done. Prbly the most painful news I've heard, other than my own famly stuff.

Princess Di killed - was still in bed, alarm had gone off and radio playing, not quite woken up, finally get up take shower and while dressing they play the news again that she had been killed inthe car crash.

and lived through 3 majorearthquakes that were all in the national news as I recollect,
AK - 9.2 (largest to heit NA continent), 1964, OR 6.2 (largest to hit in 50 yrs) - 1993 I believe, and WA 6.8 (largest in previous 50 yrs or so) - 2001

My first kiss was when I was almost 19 years old and 9 months (a couple weeks before Christmas, which is 9 months to the day after my birthday.) It was with the only man I've ever dated, who ended up becoming my husband. The circumstances were a bit squirrelly, and the initial result was a big misunderstanding that took nearly a week for both of us to come to terms with, but looking back, it's kind of funny, and I don't wish to take it back at all. :)

Quite frankly, I'm considering trying to convince my hubby that we shouldn't allow the kids to watch anything made prior to Star Wars until they're old enough to be able to appreciate the awe of the movie, then allow them to watch newer stuff. So much changed after Star Wars in cinematography and technology, I think it'd be a fascinating experiment to try with them...

I Jk! sometimes when I'm excited when I type I get their, there and they're mixed up.But lately I type their as thier. Does that count? ( That's not the question.)
Good question by the way I really had to think on that one often they're words that I don't use often and can often be French in origen.(darn there is another one.)
(I usually cheat and use spell check.)

What's the title of the Star Trek episode that refers to the ship "Botany Bay" ?

The official day is 26 January that we celebrate as Australia day. But they did look around and decide Bontany bay wasn't good for a settlement. So they went into Port Jackson, which is what you would now call Sydney Harbour.

Are you generally trustful or distrustful of people on the internet? Does the same go for those here on CW?

Rachel E.
06-23-2008, 12:44 PM
Generally distrustful of people on the internet. Here on CW, I have a bit more faith, but I try to find out about the person before doing anything with them. There are some people here who are obviously who they claim to be. Other's it's hard to tell sometimes.

Are you what most people would call "gullible"?

:) I'm the same way... I try to be careful on Facebook (unless it's family or known friends), but here, I'm more relaxed--unless we get a cyber attack, which has happened a few times.

Gullible... Hmm... I used to be pretty naïve, but I've mostly grown out of that. I don't know if that's the same as being gullible, though. I think it depends on how tired I am, or if I'm willing to play along. Some people try to pull my leg on things a lot, and if I know them, I can sometimes read their body language and know it, so I'd say I'm not too gullible.

The naïve thing took me getting around my husband more and more... There was a lot of stuff I should have known when I got married to him that I had no clue about... Even 5 years and 10 months later (to the day today!!!), there's still stuff he teaches me that I would have known had I not been so sheltered as a teenager.

Gullible, huh? Don't know. Do want to think the best of people, cause it's so easy to think the worst. If somebody walks up to me in a store parking lot asking for money to get gas, cause they ran out and gotta get home to Tacoma (or ???) I usually don't hand them any money. On the other hand when someone was at the gas station. I told them to drive there gar around and I would buy them gas. They did, and I did. Maybe they were telling the truth, maybe not, but at least I didn't just give them money - which sometimes I do cause I feel "guilty" or whatever, at the time.

My question is- How has the high price of gas affected your driving habits?

I don't think it's affected them THAT much... yeah, my husband and I don't just go for drives anymore unless we know where we want to end up, and I try to drive my husband's car rather than my truck when possible, and I cringe when we haul the boat to the lake and stop to put fuel in it....

But, other than the random driving thing, I don't think I've altered my thinking where driving is concerned. In fact, we're trying to sell my husband's Saturn and I keep telling him I want a Jeep Commander (3rd row seating!!! And not a van!!!) If that's not a gas hog, I don't know what is, other than maybe a Hummer H1--which I would get if I could afford to purchase a car that sells new for around 100K!

TW, you are more than welcome for my rescuing your thread. I really enjoyed this thread, and I'm glad it didn't die... it's the longest I've ever seen, and what a shame for it to die!!!

Gas prices have affected my family, due to the fact that we have to go over to Denver regularily because of my sister. So we now rent a car rather than taking one of our vehicles. Also we don't go much of anywhere now.

Do you have a big garden, or a little one, or just a flower patch?

melw

we have a rather large garden. We have front yard which we have a few plants, but we don't concentrate on that, basically let if fend for itself.

Our backyard is what we use more. A quarter of it is taken up with a huge vegie patch, my hubby does that. The rest is lawn and a clothesline.

I would build a two story log house with a huge unfinished or partially finished basement, for a giant game room, and the first floor would be a huge kitchen and dining room area, with a fairly large living room area off of that, with a nice bathroom, and then at the back a big spiral staircase going upstairs, where I would have a huge master bedroom/bath, and two guest bedrooms. Then I'd have a pull down staircase and a Massive loft. Outside the Master suite, I'd have a balcony area with a hot-tub with a gorgeous view for miles of mountains and trees, and meadows... and cows and horses.
the end.!!! LOL.

Good question, I like it TW.

Have you ever ran a double-bitted axe?

I don't not even know what a double bitted axe is except I am assuming it's an axe. If my assumption is correct, then no. If it is not, then probably, no.

If you could invent a word to add to the English language, what would it be and what would it mean?

Is that just a double-bladed axe?, or something different? We had to split wood when I was a kid, don't remember if we ever used double-blades or i it was always singles, w/ an occassional splitter thrown in for good measure.

We have siblings that indicate brothers and sisters, we have cousin - which indicates both male and female. We need a word that indicates the children of my siblings, both male and female. Some word like:

niephecwes :D or something.

what would you do w/ the first million you make from your book sales??

I'd buy a 500 acre ranch. Either that, or I'd buy a couple acres and build a house... so I can get married... hmm..
TW, a double bitted is the same as double bladed, it's the proper term.

What perfume/cologne do you wear?

What perfume/cologne do you wear?

Whatever I have on hand and I'm in the mood for...

Right now, it's usually a Victoria's Secret, but I split it among 2 kinds, and I can't remember what they are. One smells a little like cinnamon and hubby really likes it. I also like JLO: Glow, Bulgari, and Lolita Lempicka, but I'm either out of or nearly out of all three of those. :(

Do you eat candy? If so, what's your favorite kind?

my favorite candy is CHOCOLATE-COVERED PEANUTS served on an extremely generous helping of star-gazer icecream with a mountainous portion of whipped cream. Good thing I swim laps.

no question - so:

what movie does my signature line come from?

I have no idea so I'll let someone else answer this.

Does it come from the movie, Timber Wolf? I looked it up.
There is also a Timberwolf Bed & Breakfast in North Carolina, near Timberwolf Creek. The picture was beautiful.

If I'm wrong - same question.
If I'm right - What is your favorite song?

Rachel E.
07-28-2008, 06:18 PM
I dont' have any idea whether you are wrong or right.
My favorite song is probably "Fingerprints of God" by Steven Curtis Chapman.

Have you ever heard of Red Charlie?

PS. isn't it cool? I think we are on page 150!! awesome!

I'll give a hint - it's a SF series (and was also a mini-series) - sorry I said "what movie?" didn't I.

Favorite song - hmmmmmmm, I have a fav book, but song. Favorite music is Classical and Christian (various types, no "chrisitan rock").

I'll let my question stand for a bit. One of the SF guys / gals might recognize it.

I missed that Rachel had gone to the next pg.

Is it a perfume?

I Let my question stand.

150 pgs and still counting, thanks to Rachel saving the thread.
And I've got way too many posts in here. Way more than Warrior Talk, where I've been registered for years, and years, nd I've been here less than 1 year.
Hmmmmmmm, tells me something.

TW, you have been my buddy since you joined here, I'd do a lot for you, and saving your awesome thread that I'm so grateful to you for starting is the least of it!
And yes, it's a perfume... a nice one! lol...

You wouldn't want to know... depends if you are talking day dreams or night dreams(mares)... too scary to think about.
I still don't know, so still TW's same question.

I forget most of my dreams, or I turn them into stories, so I forget the original dream. I've had some scary screams that made me wake up. Usually the dreams are dark, in tight spaces with skulls and evil creepy stuff. But I rarely have those dreams.

It's been a while since I remembered a dream. I know you dream every night, but I don't remember a lot of them.

Have you ever turned any of your dreams into stories?

i have only ever used aspects of dreams. Parts of it, but i imagine the dream story and how it would go in my life.

What is your favourtie smell?

I love roses and fried onions but seperately :p

I still don't know, so still TW's same question.

I can't take credit for this thread - I think Xenia started this one.
Are you wondering how I knew it was perfme? :D

Fav smell - depends. Firecrackers is one, burned gun powder is another. (hey you asked :D) Film emulsion, developer, and stop bath are others.
Oh and I do like roses too.

I'm gonna leave my question stand - want to see if any of our SF writers recognize it. (it wasn't from Night Stalker that was more horror / Fantasy).

I'll give another hint (which I forgot / didn't know) There was a two-part mini series, the following year a separate 3-part mini series, and then the TV series - it lasted only one season.

You're right TW, Xenia did start it... hmm, wonder why I thought you did. wierd.

Anyway, you're still my buddy and what I said still applies.
and I STILL dont' know the answer to your question!
