WritingChaos

I love computers, but I really stink at them a lot. I use them for internet, writing, and often just plain communication.

And my collection is growing not including my trance/game/ambient/classical music that I collect. So it’s a bit hard for me to say one is my very most favored. Sorry. Just depends on my mood.

What’s the most boring theme park ride you’ve been on?

Cymrugirl
05-05-2008, 03:34 PM
It's a Small World - I was ready to start popping the little banchees off by the 45th round of "it's a small world after all..." Non-existent lines outside a ride should be a clue!

.................................................. .............

What is your favorite tree?

Do you ever read scripture and personalize it, putting your name in the verses?

Timber Wolf
05-05-2008, 05:18 PM
I do sometimes.

Do you want Peter Jackson to direct Hobbit or are you happy w/ the other guy and PJ and Fran being Executive Directors?
Who should write if Fran doesn't write?

Rachel E.
05-05-2008, 05:21 PM
I wish that PJ was coming back to do The Hobbit, but after looking over some of the other guy's work and checking out his rating's etc. I think he has great potential and I'm willing to wait and see. As to the second question there TW, I don't know the answer, so I'll ask the question too!

Who should write if Fran doesn't write?

Rachel E.

Since no one has posted on this almost all day... and I dont' know the answer to the last question, can I ask another?

What is your time zone?

Do you belong to any organization (non-writerly/artistic)?

melw
05-06-2008, 05:50 AM
I belong to what is called Adventurers, last year is was Pathfinders. The Adventurers are children ages 5 -10, and they learn safety, animals, crafts, fitness etc....

Pathfinders is similar except you have ages 10-16+ WE take them camping and do craft and they learn things.

These are both run worldwide through our church so have a big emphasis on God. It is worthwhile when you see a child/young person make a decision or do something special.

If you could be any animal what would you be?

MEL

Rachel E.
05-06-2008, 12:13 PM
I would be a horse. I love horses and always have.

What is a name you would chose for your first child if 1.) you have never had any kids, or 2.) you have had all your kids, but I want a name you'd name the next kid.

Right now, I want Delia for a girl, Vincent for a boy. Last year, I wanted Annika for a girl, didn't really have a name picked out for a boy.

Do you, if you have pets, name your pets human names or pet names (i.e., Sparky, Fluffy, Brownie, etc. rather than Josie, Charlie, etc.)

Rachel E.
05-06-2008, 12:47 PM
I named the dog that died Honey, and my calves names are Magnum and Brend. Brend is Celtic for "little raven" so it fit her as she's a black angus.

Do you own cows? Do you love them?

righter1
05-06-2008, 12:53 PM
Do you own cows? Do you love them?

I live in the city, so I don't own cows, and never have, although I did live in the country for most of my formative years. My grandparents had cows when I was growing up, and they just scared me for the most part. I still think cows can be scary animals, though now I'm bigger, so not as scary as when I was a little girl.

..........................................

Other than venemous animals (snakes and the like), what animals scare you and why?

Rachel E.
05-06-2008, 12:58 PM
Not many animals scare me. Besides spider's and snakes, I don't much care for Mountain Lions...they scare me. We have one that lives near us, and he visits sometimes. The size of his paw prints! Oh my word!! They are big cats. and love sheep...calves, and goats...very good to them. They are scary!

jacks girl

I like Dogs best then cats then horses.

We have had several cows. I love them too. They are a huge, kind and curious large beast. Granny had all kinds of fun with one they called Heart.

Have you ever been hit in the head with a cow's tail while milking her or seen a cat raise on it's hind legs to get milk from a teet. LOL.

Yes, I've been and seen both! I milked cows for a number of years, and got switched in the face more times than I can count. And as to the cat question, I've helped cat's do that. It's fun!

Same question...

05-06-2008, 03:12 PM
I figured you had seen this done Rachel by the way you talk about your life. I miss having cows, and horses. Don't miss the chickens really although I did dream about little fuzzy chicks last night. The dogs always want to chase and eat them is the only reason i don't miss chickens.

I can remember the first time i seen the fake egg that papa left in the nest. LOL. I though he'd lost his mind. I wish all children could have the exp. of being on a farm.

Question still stands for now. I been hit in the face with a tail, I wasn't a good milker. LOL. Granny always aimed the milk at the kitties and they loved it wish i had it on video.

Rachel E.
05-06-2008, 03:14 PM
Yeah Jacks, I miss milking cows a lot. I loved doing it, and since we got rid of our last cow, it's sad. I miss it a lot. I loved squirting cat's in the mouth, it's so funny! Then they clean off their faces like they were the daintiest queen's! lol... I love farm life, and am going to marry a rancher. i love that!

I'll read devotionals on occasion, but usually when I'm reading the Bible, I'll just do commentaries, lexicons, and various sources on ANE literature, culture and Rabbinic history.

Teddy bears--mostly the Beanie Baby sized ones, but I have others that are larger, too. Though, I couldn't find a small bear on my recent trip to Minnesota, so I settled for a moose (I like to get small things from trips to remember the trips.) The moose is currently sitting on my desk at work. :)

A little bit of all, I think. I learn a lot by hearing (probably more than 40%), but, I think it depends on the situation and what is being learned.

I'll read devotionals on occasion, but usually when I'm reading the Bible, I'll just do commentaries, lexicons, and various sources on ANE literature, culture and Rabbinic history.

Do you know what ANE means in the context I just used it in?

Not unless I still feel it's dirty, or accidentally forget I already did. And, sometimes, if I remember, or if I need to get my hair to calm down (it's frizzy and tends to have a mind of its own, despite my conditioner usage.)

What is couscous salad, and how do you make it?
Couscous salad is a salad that my wife makes using an herb salad blend (most important part being cilantro), red kidney beans, tomatoes, shredded carrots, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and couscous.

It's absolutely delicious and fills me quite well (a feat in itself.) We like to have it with unfiltered concord grape juice or a red wine, and serve with soft rolls (preferably challah bread rolls... yum!)

...

Have you ever had couscous? If not, I highly recommend it!

My mom was jealous of my thick eyebrows. (Guess they came from dad's side). I don't know that's a tough question. People used to say I was good at tutoring when I tutored in college. And they asked me to teach some Wed night studies in church and I got kudos. Does any of that count as a "feature?"

what is a non-newtonian fluid?

Xenia
05-08-2008, 07:49 AM
Make me work!

An inexpensive, non-toxic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxicity) sample of a non-Newtonian fluid sometimes known as oobleck (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oobleck) can be made by adding corn starch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_starch) (corn flour) to a cup of water. The application of force (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Force) - for example by stabbing the surface with a finger, or rapidly inverting the container holding it - leads to the fluid behaving like a solid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid) rather than a liquid. This is the "shear thickening" property of this non-Newtonian fluid. More gentle treatment, such as slowly inserting a spoon, will leave it in its liquid state. Trying to jerk the spoon back out again, however, will trigger the return of the temporary solid state. A person moving quickly and applying sufficient force with their feet can literally walk across such a liquid.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Newtonian_fluid#cite_note-Brainiac-0)

What is the meaning behind Yeshua's name?

WritingChaos
05-08-2008, 11:12 AM
Yeshua, spelled יֵשׁוּעַ in Hebrew, was a common name among Jews of the Second Temple Period, and is believed by some scholars[1] and religious groups[2] to be the Hebrew or Aramaic name for Jesus. It is extensively used by Messianic Jews and Hebrew Christians, as well as others, who wish to use what some believe to be the original Hebraic pronunciation of Jesus' name. This pronunciation and spelling, as with many religious and scholarly issues, remains the subject of ongoing debate.

I hate coffee. I hate the smell of it, the taste of it, I even hate it when co-workers walk by and have a cup and I can smell it (being pregnant makes me smell things more pungently than before.) I CAN go into coffeeshops, as long as they're not too strong. Hubby and I went into one recently that we took 2 steps into, and I turned to him and said that the smell was going to make me nauseous, so we had to leave. (I was only a month or so pregnant then, I think.)

Mine smells really good but some coffees have a horrible smell, mainly those that are strong or over-roasted. I know I'll step on toes with this one but I hate Starbucks coffee. Yuck! Hmmm. You sound somewhat dismayed at the elderly age you will be in 5 years, but I have no sympathy for you since I'm 38 right now. In five years, I will no longer be so. Actually in 1 month, I will no longer be 38. So, no sympathy for you. LOL

What was your last supernatural experience? (Careful, loaded question)

Rachel E.
05-10-2008, 02:39 PM
I'm going to go for a positive supernatural experience, as the negative is so hard. I've been praying to have strength through everything I personally, and also my family are going through. For me as a person, for my boyfriend, who is suffering too, for my family, who feel rather torn right now, for my parents..I could go on for a while, anyway, just for us to Feel GOD every moment, and not fail Him.
Looking back, I KNOW that God has been here for us, every step of the way, when my footsteps fumbled and I wanted to cry with hurt, loneliness, and defeat, I looked up and Knew that He was there for me. It's been So good!

Our church recently put on an Easter musical (a mnth late due to logistics), and the man wo wrote and composed the music gave his story of how God lead him through the last 18 yrs to come to make this a reality. The talk will be up on our men's group website in a couple of weeks. I'll post when it is up, I would highly encourage everyone to listen to it.

Most intense, is probably when our church has a super-Sunday where the worship and praise is so intense that you can see the presence of God hanging over the people like a veil of light. Where you can see it shimmering over our heads and you know He is there in all His glory. It's the most glorious and touching thing I've ever experienced, and Powerful beyond words.

What is the price of gas in your area?

lynnmosher
05-11-2008, 07:01 PM
Sulfhemoglobinemia is a rare condition in which there is excess sulfhemoglobin (SulfHb) in the blood. The pigment is a greenish derivative of hemoglobin which cannot be converted back to normal, functional hemoglobin. It causes cyanosis even at low blood levels.

Sulfhemoglobinemia is usually drug induced. Drugs associated with sulfhemoglobinemia include acetanilid, phenacetin, nitrates, trinitrotoluene and sulfur compounds (mainly sulphonamides). Another possible cause is occupational exposure to sulfur compounds. The condition generally resolves itself with erythrocyte (red blood cell) turnover, although blood transfusions can be necessary in extreme cases.

I actually don't go to fast food that frequently... though sometimes, it's the only thing really available when I'm out and my blood sugar drops (since I'm pregnant, at least.)

I try to eat healthy--or as healthy as I can--and hubby and I like to go for walks a lot. Both of us are blessed with high metabolism, though there are overweight and/or obese people in our immediate families. Most nights, I cook at home, usually from scratch or as close to it as I can get, if time allows. When we do go out, I rarely, if ever, will finish what I order, and will typically take it home for lunch the next day. Eating breakfast helps--usually. Typically, if I eat breakfast in the morning, I'm not as hungry during the day, though today seems to be an exception to the rule--I'm eating everything in sight! Baby must be hungry today.

I also try not to keep a lot of soda on hand--especially if hubby's folks are coming to visit--they're major pop-a-holic's. We drink a lot of tea, juice, and water, as well as Gatorade at our house.

However, there is one member of our household that's overweight, if not obese. And, that's our cat, Alley. She's a Type-2 diabetic, insulin dependent, and can't seem to lose weight. Maybe the new puppy chasing her everywhere will help.

Personally, I eat next to nothing, keep the fat's down, don't drink or eat lots of sugar, and Hardly ever eat out. My family has almost totally cut out white flours and breads, we make our own whole wheat bread, and almost no sweet's during the week.
I'm personally my ideal body weight for my size, but I am related to people who are overweight/obese. Most of my extended family is on a constant diet, be it weight watchers or something else.
I don't know what we can do for other people. I mean, how will we save America from destroying herself or unless we pray? That's the only option I know of.

I typically get Gatorade Rain. It's not as sweet as regular Gatorade. I'm sure there's still a lot of corn syrup, but being pregnant, the docs are more concerned about my hydration level as opposed to the actual electrolytes (unless I'm having certain tummy problems--then they want me to push the electrolytes.)

I'm not sure what my favorite question is from the past few pages, so I'll pass and let the next person answer.

Side-note, I actually did see one not too long ago doing an ad campaign here in the City talking about how there's no HFCS in it. Can't remember the name of it now though, so I'm sure this isn't much help, but it does exist!

It may be Gatorade: G2 or Gatorade: Tiger. I've seen it in the stores, but not bought either.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Over 1/3 of the United States is clinically obese. Something close to two-thirds is overweight. Europe and Japan's life expectancies are actually beginning to fall as they adopt American habits.

What are you doing to reverse the process? :D

Okay, i try to eat healthy and because i don't cook much meat i guess that is one way. I also limit my portions, but hubby doesn't quite understand that. I try to do more exercise, but being sick recently haven't really felt like it.

What exercise do people do? What is most effective?

grief, how would I know? Beyond walking, jogging, running, weight lifting, dieting, umm.... I'm not sure. I've heard that walking is the most affective and best for your body, but I don't know.

Do you drink Sobe's? If so, what's your favorite flavor?

Don't know what it is? Energy drink? I try to stay away from those. I very rarely drink coffee. I do use ginseng / gingko biloba (sp) occassionally.

I'm not sure if Mel's earlier question was a general inquiry, but I'll ask what exercise do you do?

Before I got pregnant, I did some light weight training. I'm wanting to start doing it again for my upper body, but haven't. :( I have been walking/running more with the new puppy. Walking's good, right? After I'm cleared for exercise after I have the baby, I want to get into a more rigorous weight training schedule--and increase my strength.

Depends...water under pressure will cut literally, and tears can cut your heart figuratively.

What kind of water do you drink?

What's the longest you've ever camped out in a tent?

Either three or four nights. That's about my limit.

What's the worst experience you've had while camping? (If you don't have a worst, how about a funniest?)

Rachel E.

Worst would have to either be when we had the dogs with us and a Mountain lion came through camp and started screaming while the dogs barked. We were so scared! That or the time it started pouring rain and rained solid for two days until we finally decided to come home and then it cleared up and the sun shone. Everything was soaking wet and cold. It was miserable.

Where do you like to go camping?

I haven't camped since I left AK. I've mentined in other threads gettig a cab-over-camper to put on my truck to drive up into the hills and camp and take photos.

My question stands - I'll give a clue, it's a liquid that breaks.

Wow, and I thought I had to be a record breaker for girls!!! :) At the most, I spend 10 minutes (including getting dressed, brushing teeth, combing hair.)

Lunch... a baked potato, and anything else I can scrounge up.

Every day I have the same thing, well, once in a while I eat something else.

* hard-boiled egg
* handful of grape tomatoes
* broccoli (with a little Ranch dressing)
* usually 2-3 of these: (dark) grapes, strawberries, pear (half), apple (half), melon (one quarter), or some others
* water
